I haven't been to the beach since I was 11, and I may never go again. The ocean is beautiful, but I'm too afraid of !
I'm sorry, but that is almost unbelievable, CBC.
Do you know how much more likely it is for you to die while riding your bicycle than by a shark attack if you go to a beach?
In the US, in 2008, 716 people died in bicycle related accidents while 1 died in a shark attack.
http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/attacks/relariskbike.htmIn the US, in 2008, you were 23 times more likely to be killed in a dog attack than in a shark attack.
http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/attacks/relariskdog.htmYou have a 1 in 5 risk of dying from a heart attack in your lifetime, but your lifetime risk of dying from a shark attack is only 1 in 3.7 million.
I think avoiding the beach over such a tiny risk is an irrational fear.
