hospitalized?
explain.
It was nothing, really.
Melatonin hyped me up, too much. I had tried it several times and gotten mixed results. I could not sleep one night and I took four of them in about two hours and I became so over-stimulated that my wife dialed 911 and got the Police involved.
They showed up, sticks in hand, responding to a "domestic disturbance call" and planning to take some low-life scumbag to jail for beating his wife. There was no wifebeating! My wife was very disturbed, because she had never, in fifteen years of marriage, seen me that out of control.
The only way the police would butt-THE FUCK-out was if I got into the ambulance and went to the hospital for some tests. The emergency room docs took blood and came back with a "negative" result. No drugs in my system. My wife had given the cops the melatonin and the doctors were scratching their heads as to why I was having that reaction. I refused all the shots of bullshit they tried to give me, which caused an additional amount of agitation in the attending policemen. I told them I needed water, and I drank lots of water! Then I drank more water. They took me to a bed, though, and I had three bags of saline, even though there was no reason to.
After a couple of hours I was fine, but I will never again take melatonin. My family doctor even showed up in the middle of the night and he was befuddled, too. He said, "I don't usually see my fifty year old dads like this" and reminded me that even though this stuff is available over-the-counter, it doesn't matter what it affects, or that it is sold as a dietary supplement, it's still a drug and should be respected.
I had said I was embarrassed, but it's more like I felt stupid and vulnerable. Moral of the story ... if something doesn't work for you after trying it a dozen or so times, don't increase the dosage without an escape route.
