Quetiapine. Also known as Seroquel. It is an antipsychotic. Or neuroleptic as some doctors like to say it.

Is it recommended that you take it?

My advice is to read up on everything about a medication if it is suggested you take it or it is prescribed to you. I had awful things happen to me in the past because I was ignorant about what I took. I don't want anything like that to happen to you. Ever!

thanks

i got prescribed some today

it's only a very low dose though - 25 or 50mg i think, when it can go up to 700 she said

i haven't taken it yet, but IIRC i'm meant to take 25mg every night for a week, then start taking 25 in the morning as well after that, so 50mg a day

i'm gonna be continuing with my Seroxat as well, which has been upped to 40 a day

i will read up on it later

i've had quite a few meds in the past but no really bad side effects so far. probably because i've only ever beenon pretty low doses

what kinda problems have you had with meds before? i've been on Prozac, Dosulepin (tri-cyclic anti-Dep), Librium, Valium, Seroxat and some other thing similar to librium/valium before

the only one i've had bad side effects with was prozac which made me lose my appetite and nearly collapse (although that coulda just been from not eating enough or because it was hot)

sorry, i'm rambling. what problems did you have?

Seroquel will make you sleep a lot  I had it as a sleep aid but it made me groggy all the time and very spacey but I still didn't sleep

If you don't like it you can sell it- it's on the rise as a street drug.

i was wrong about taking it twice a day btw. apparently the doc changed her mind

Maybe she's into that sort of thing? Maybe she became a doc so she could be closer to people like you.  :orly:

Get asthma so you can try Qvar Soph. Or maybe malaria so you can use quinine.  :indeed:

Loads of doctors think autistics need antipsychotics. It is autism not psychoticism! So I wouldn't believe your doctor about you being psychotically unwell. She may be just saying that to justify her prescribing you that sort of medication.

I am wondering if she said it would help with your OCD. I know that some antidepressants are used for OCD symptoms. Not sure about Seroxat, though.

I have had Seroquel (which did nothing), risperidone and haloperidol - both of those too made me twitch really badly, I couldn't even sleep. It was called tardive dyskinesia, something I wish never to experience again.

Every doctor I have been to about psych meds has offered me antipsychotics and I won't take them unless there is a very good reason.

Try to stay on a low dose - otherwise any benefit you get might be outweighed by the unpleasant side effects.
