The upper class frequently ditch terms, for the simple reason if the lower classes copy something, they have to ditch it. It can happen very quickly on occasion.

You just proved yourself wrong. People aspiring to a higher class is about sociological change, not linguistic--there's nothing inherently linguistic about wanting to move up in the class hierarchy. The words and phrases are already there and the only reason you try them is that *they* use them.
