It's the date of Ian Curtis' death.
Ah, that Brit date style confuses me. Here in the States we would have written it as "5-18-80."OT, I'm currently listening to the awesome Brothers Johnson song I spammed elsewhere, and I realize it was playing on the radio in early 1980. I was only 14 then!

The chicken’s still dancing / the chicken won’t stop. From the film Stroszek by Herzog. This was the last film seen by Ian Curtis before his death, these words were carved into Joy Division’s Still LP; “The chicken won’t stop” on side A and finally “The chicken stops here.” side D. These words can also be found in 4.48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane’s infamous play without acts, scenes, directions or characters. Sarah commited suicide shortly after completing the play which has since been regarded as her suicide note.
