It's amazing how much money can be saved by a school system switching to open source software. When a discussion came before a school board full of idiots, a committee was formed to assess this prospect, then a task force grew out of the knowledge base that was begun.
After much information gathering, the decision was made to scrap the entire system of PC based computers in favor of an Apple/Mac system at a cost of eight million dollars. The task force was not quite done, though, since it became apparent that the educational system was short-changing the student body without the availability of a "complete" computer course. So, at the cost of another three million dollars, another set of PC based computers was purchased.
It is difficult to determine just how much money they have saved, but I am sure it would be a staggering amount.
