thanks, hon.  turns out i have two - count 'em! - TWO hernias.  typical me, in that i have to get a fucking male condition.  ::)

the surgery isn't complicated, but the recovery time is two weeks, which i haven't got, particularly as there's no-one to do the things anyone has to do.  the main thing, apparently, is to give up smoking.  yeah, right: wanted to do that, did it for eight months, then needed help (for the eating disorder the smoking was masking), couldn't get any fucking support from the NHS, so started again.

now i'm in rant mode - i'll stfu.   >:(
