how do these link referals work ?

I get some weird sites on my referal sites list when I check my website.

I get the facebook ones and whenever I've linked to it on here "intensitysquared.com" has come up, but what is with the really random websites that obviously haven't got people actually posting the link to my site on them? why do they show up?

not that it matters, just wondering

I believe those are just the last page someone was on before loading yours.  Could be coming from a bookmark or just typing in the address.

Oh right, I thought it only showed where someone had actually linked to it from. ie if they'd clicked the link on facebook, it would show facebook. But if they'd just been on facebook and typed in my address, it wouldn't count ?

Those ones with the blue lines next to them could just be Russian spammers. I get a lot of them on my blog.

Yeah that is what I was thiunking, but wondering how it happens?

I mean what do they do, crawl random sites or something?

Yeah they do and post some spam too if they can. There is stacks of it on my blog (though it doesn't actually show up unless I approve it), over a thousand that I should delete but can't be bothered as it takes so long. Have been meaning to get GA to  fix some sort of security up for me on there.

I am not sure how they actually get to the site though, it is probably a random thing as you said.

I'd be majorly disappointed if I clicked it and it was spam

It is unlikely you will get spam because you have that part of posting where you have to write down your name and email address and all. I hope it continues to keep the spammers away.
