Twice as tall as you. Snow can be higher than a one story building there. Ridiculously cold place for most of the year. You can't swim in the water there really, just pretty to look at like the falls. It is a rust belt city and has a rapidly declining population. It is also basically next to Niagra Falls and near the Canadian border.
Oh stop. I was there for 18 years, and never saw
an accumulation as tall as I am. The mountains here
are a different matter - THERE, I learned what a real
snow pack is. A good 15 feet.
As to the population, that of the city itself is declining,
but the 'burbs are growing. The overall area population
is staying level. There's just this horrible inner city cancer.
There are areas there that compare to some of the most
dangerous neighborhoods in the US. It's a shame, because
they aren't too far from some of the historic places. In fact,
the old train station, which was once a masterpiece, is the
center of such an area. They never should have shut it down.
The city, like many, is the victim of big projects and too much
urban planning. When they put the trolley in (okay subway),
they shut down the downtown stretch of main street, making
it a pedestrian mall. Ruined several blocks of thriving businesses.
Huge buildings, like the convention centers, hockey rink, baseball
stadium, ended up badly breaking up the natural flow and feel.
Oh, and I've swam in the water. Lake Erie ain't pristine,
but neither is the ocean.
