Because I love video games, and over the last couple of years I’ve found myself increasingly depressed and disgusted with the direction that the industry is taking. I find myself choked with dread that the hobby I so enjoy will sink so far into douchebaggery and corporate bullshit that it will cease producing the kind of games that I like altogether.

Now, I’m not a complete moron. I know that the ’80s and ’90s weren’t some magical time where corporate greed and unscrupulous marketing didn’t exist and we all lived in a utopia where everyone involved in video game development actually CARED about the consumer and the artistic merit of their medium…

…but it was better than this, goddamnit.

DLC, “casual gaming”, cover systems, David Jaffee, yearly installments, mergers, Halo, Game Informer, Activision, motion controls, Tetsuya Nomura, “next-gen” graphics, Kotaku, World of Warcraft, Bioshock, GameStop, special editions, music games not named “Rock Band”…

…it’s all just a swirling vortex of BULLSHIT being sucked down the drain, leaving behind all traces of artistry, originality, innocence and simplicity.

It’s not just nostalgia. I honestly have a difficult time finding games I like these days, and that’s a problem I NEVER had until this console generation. I can’t open a gaming news site without being instantly depressed by some executive’s marketing jargon or some developer’s explanation for why his five hour, bloom-lit, brown-paletted game about a bald space marine is a fucking revolutionary masterpiece.

So now you get to hear about it, if you want. I know you probably don’t agree with me. If the things I say offend you, or you think I’m an idiot, you don’t have to read any more than you want to.

…but if you share my pain, and if you’ve had enough, feel free to take some time and join me in a hearty “FUCK YOU” to the rejects ruining our fun.

All I have to say about this is that... I agree entirely. And FUCK YOU to the cunts for transforming video gaming into the New Hollywood!

The only game I'm looking forward to is GTA V. Because Rockstar Games is/was the last DECENT game manufacturer out there.

I'm going to have to find something else to do. :thumbdn:

No, we need someone who KNOWS. Someone who isn't just in it for their own greedy damn self.

I do realize that video game companies need to make money, but this shit is going way too far.

They are very similar to the oil companies. Raking in big profits with relatively decreasing and deceptive efforts.

Well, how do you like this? Saints Row 3 will have NO online multiplayer. If this means that more effort will go into the single-player/co-op expereince, then I applaud Volition for deviating from the trends of producing Halo/Call of Duty copycats, and for knowing about what REALLY fucking matters in a game. Sure, the stupid game journalists and the 13 year old boys will lambaste the game for not having online deathmatch, but fuck them! They shouldn't even worry, because the likes of EA, Activision, and Microsoft Game Studios will always have more "manjuice" for them to slurp.

Now, I hope that the PC port doesn't get fucked up like last time, and I just might get Saints Row 3. So that I can play something else other than GTA IV.

You probably need to spend a lot of time studying and doing your homework anyway, and not spend a lot of time playing video games.
