I don't really curse much at all IRL, nor do I let my daughter be around people cursing.  I don't want my daughter to say some curse word a million times and I'm afraid that's what would happen if she heard me or her dad talk that way.

She heard "First they forked and then they spooned" on House and she found it funny, so I heard her say that a lot of times.

i dont think its very dangerous.
werent you a kid?

when i was, my dad cursed constantly. and, well, i curse a lot :D but its not really a harmful thing.
norwegian tv does not *beep out* curses, and "fuck/fucking" is not part of our vocabulary, we do not use the word for sex, as a curse, the other ones, crap, shit, etc we use, plus some others.
ive heard toddler-tv hosts curse :D
and use real curses :D
sortof equivalent to "holy shit!" and its kinda just natural :D (in fact, "fucking" could even be used to translate some of what ive heard them say on kids tv :D)

my stepmother does give me dissapointed looks if i curse around my sisters there, but the kids just laugh
"you said shiiit!" :D

My daughter is autistic and has echolalia, so it's not much of an exaggeration when I say she would say the word a million times, especially if she got a reaction from her teachers or someone like that.  I worked hard not to react to "First they forked and then they spooned," but I don't know how her teachers would react to many repetitions of an actual curse word when they have the other kids to consider.

Her Special education teacher actually put soap in her mouth in second grade when she thought my daughter had said a curse word, although my daughter did not say what she thought she heard.  I don't think these teachers would ever do anything like that, but I don't want to put my daughter in that position again.

Unfortunately, she's not behind bars and she went on teaching for years at the same school where she abused my daughter although I heard she retired at the end of last year.  It was the word of my daughter who was at the time a seven year old autistic child who had a lot of trouble communicating against the word of a special education teacher who denied doing anything wrong.  Given that she would not have made a good witness in court we settled on getting our daughter out of the school and away from that woman.

Being an old-school style teacher, she would have thought she was within her rights, as the style from the 50s-60s was to punish kids who swore with soap and water. Obviously it can't be done in todays society, and shouldn't be done with a kid with autism.

being a teacher in the first place, one would think she had been updated on the whole "its not cool to beat kids up anymore" which would include all other sorts of abuse as well.
in later school years, we were 16-18, we had a teacher who would "out" students who failed tests, by name, and ridicule them :D
totally crap behaviour
but off she went. bye bye!

She was in her forties, so maybe that had been done to her when she was a kid and maybe that is how she would have handled it if her own kids had cursed.  However, my husband and I would have never done such a thing to our daughter and it was never done to either of us.  Even if the teacher would have put soap in her own child's mouth, she should never have done it to someone else's child.  I think a special education teacher should be held to a higher standard.

My daughter and I ran into someone in the grocery store who said she was a friend of that teacher and my daughter had a meltdown and told her what that teacher had done to her.  Actually the soap wasn't the worst of it.  She also wrapped her hands around my daughter's neck and choked her.  I went to school with my daughter every day after this happened until the end of the school year, then the school district agreed to move her to a different school.

I went through the corporal punishment era at primary school (strap etc), which was early 70s. Choking a student is definitely not on, and I'm glad you did something about that. That teacher obviously had the wrong vocation.

That's terrible, Callaway. Once heard of a child who had an allergic reaction to soap in the mouth and died. The parent was charged with murder.

That's so horrible.  When the soap in the mouth happened the first time, I spoke to the teacher and told her that my husband and I would never do it to our daughter ourselves and we did not want it done to her at school either.  I told her that it could make our daughter sick.  The teacher denied doing anything but said that maybe someone else at school could possibly have done it.  She also denied that it could make a child sick, which made me think she was really the person who did it.

No doubt she did do it. The choking thing was the worst though. Never understood why people like that even choose to work with children, much less ones that require more patience. Felt bad for that mother when hearing that story. She most likely wasn't a bad parent; everyone's heard of the soap in the mouth thing. My mom told me my grandmother did it to her and her brother once for spitting at each other. She put soap in their mouth and told them to go spit.
