Cash for clunkers

Good or bad? One one hand it encourages people to buy more fuel efficient cars on the other they can only scrap the cars turned in.  What of the energy and environmental cost is building the new cars is it even taken into consideration? Sure the new one gets better millage but it has to be newly made where as the others are already here the energy and resources to make them already used.  Would it not be better to just phase newer cars in as needed.  Then there are the people who got cars this last year because they had to what do they get nothing. I am skeptical of the whole process all it seems to me is a way to bail out the auto makers.  Any thoughts

From an economic standpoint it's like a store owner standing on corner handing out his money saying "Here's some money go spend it on whatever you want in my store"

Money is not free just because the government hands it out.

Seems better than just handing it to the automakers.

Plus it gets a lot of cars off the road that are probably death traps anyway.

They should do something similar over here.

Congress just voted to add two billion more dollars to the CARS program, since the first billion disappeared within a week.

David Letterman was asked if he was interested in the 'Cash for Clunkers' deal. He said he could've offered a couple of old shows......

Thought about doing it. Didn't because paperwork wasn't quite in order. Had reservations about it.

The Republican voters thought they could get a deal on Sarah Palin. Unfortunately for them, they were told they'd have to give them cash to take her, as she was too far gone.
