Second shift
« on: January 29, 2008, 09:19:28 PM »
Anybody ever work second shift? I started working on a school today and can only work 3-11.  Only put in half a day today but I seem very comfortable working these hours anyone else have any experience with this?

I would love to work 3-11, those are my peak hours in terms of feeling alert and with it and happy.

I work second shift too. Sometimes I wished I worked first shifts so I wouldn't miss anything in the evenings and I would be able to go to the local aspie gathering here that is every second Sunday of the month and so I can watch my evening shows but I don't have to worry about that anymore. I got TIVO. But the good thing about 2nd shift is staying up late and not getting up early. Also I don't have to request days off when I make appointments because I can have them in the mornings or at noon. And I can come home late at night when I go to  Spokane but I'd rather not get up early and drive back before my shift starts but I did that with Yakima since it was only a three hour drive.

I've worked second and third shift, third shift is hard I usually get tired around 4 or 5 am. Though I sometimes would work a 12 hour overnight shift when I was working in group homes, they actually let me take a nap.

In Australia, it is known as afternoon shift. I don't mind it, as I can get shopping done on weekdays when it is quiet (children at school) and also easily get to doctor appointments.

The problem I had with it,
was being unavailable to do things
with friends.

I used to work nights at the radio station... it was great.  The only problem was the music was programmed to put people to sleep (instrumental only, and increasingly slower tempo)...  it tended to work on me too.
I came to this world with nothing
and I leave with nothing but love,
everything else is just borrowed.

Fuck it, we'll do it live.

I prefer the 2nd shift. 3-11 or 4-midnight.  I'm more alert, I tend to stay up late anyway.  I can come home, relax, go to bed and sleep in.  Then I can get my shopping/chores done in time to go to work.  It does work better for me, mentally and physically.  Plus I like the fact that as the shift goes on things tend to quiet down later in the evening.  It's a shift that suits me very well and has worked for me better than any other.  7-3pm, I can handle, but, only if I have to.  The graveyard shift is nice for the peace and quiet, but, my body and mind just could never make the adjustment and I wound up getting sick.

The problem is, it's during my best time.
Time that I like to save for work that I have
to think at. So, certain jobs absolutely
sucked, in the evening (like telemarketing).
Didn't mind physical stuff though.

worked at night every Sunday for about a month when I was with my last boyfriend. We leave at one in the morning and put the papers together and deliver them. We wouldn't get done till around seven or eight. because of me, it take him longer to get the work done because I always got motion sickness so he drive slower. I could not keep my eyes open after being up all night so I'd fall asleep in his car but because of my hunger from working, it make me feel car sick.
