Things you never knew about your Grandmother.
« on: December 22, 2017, 10:17:54 PM »
For one thing though..... I never knew she was a big fan of Billie Holiday. She just kept it hush hush because of being a strict conservative baptist and all. Another thing I didn't know was that she worked with immigrant families in New York before going to Pakistan with my Grandpa.

Why didn't she tell me any of this? Was I really that afraid of her???

It's funny how the things my grandparents kept from me are the things that probably would have brought us closer together.

I never got to meet any of my grandparents.  One of my great-grandmothers may have been of mixed race.  :orly:

Grandma Teenie alluded to a "female operation" with radioactive material being placed in her body.  Not sure what surgery it was or if it was cancer.

Grandma Minnie try to have an abortion according to her husband.  The child died at a few months old.

My mother's mom died when she was only 2 to 3 years old, so the only thing I had to a grandmother on that side of the family was her stepmother. Grandma as I knew her was a bit strict on a few things, yet other times she was quite fun... whenever my sister and I, or our cousins came over she would want to play Scrabble with all of us. She was fun... yet she was a traditionalist Mennonite, and a clear example of when she broke out of tradition was when it took 30 years to convince her to cut her hair.

I never knew.

Another one for the list. But that one's probably true.

My granny used to give me spoons and tell me to go outside and dig in the dirt.  :viking:

My parents used to tell me to go play in traffic. :9

I never knew that my Granny was actually made out of paper mache.

My granny used to tat lace but when she got older her eyes were too bad for such tiny thread and needle, so she switched to yarn and crochet needles but still using the same lace patterns. She would give me these giant ass yarn doilies for Christmas that were two or three feet in diameter. What the crap am I supposed to do with big ole three foot yarn doilies, and how do I respond to that? THANKS GRANDMA!  :zoinks:

A very intriguing point!

I have revealed a few things about my Grandfather' life and honestly I would have loved to find out these things while he was still alive.

The end result of life's daily pain and suffering, trials and failures, tears and laughter, readings and listenings is an accumulation of wisdom in its purest form.
