Has anyone any experience with playing them?  I want to teach myself to play a uke but I'm not sure which one to buy, the Soprano or the Tenor.  Those are the two sizes that have caught my eye.  Plus does anyone know of a decent make that is not too expensive but not shite either?  Obviously Martin uke's are brilliant but they are bloody expensive  :|

So, thoughts?  :P

I know they make real expensive ones up near my brother's house he worked on the factory when they built it and got them for his kids as part of the deal

A friend of mine who lives in TX just bought one, custom made. They can be expensive. There's a fellow 90 yrs old lives in my area who still plays live concerts on his uke.
Personally, I'd prefer a banjo. Or a mandolin, because they have a fuller sound.

Oooh I like the sound of a mandolin! Might get that instead   It's just that a uke looks awfully easy to learn how to play yourself so that was my obvious choice.

Now debating whether to go with the Mahalo or the Lanikai brand.  Both cheap and not exactly brilliant but they do get decent reviews.  Even the bloke from Beirut uses both of them.
