When I was in high school, my town put in the stop lights at an intersection so for a while people kept running through the red lights and the police officers were letting them get away with it because neither of them were used to it. I thought maybe giving them a ticket would be tragic enough they would remember it and stop there next time when the light is red so they won't forget again.

I wonder if it would horribly derail this topic to point out that if you're going to start making policies that are bound to piss a whole bunch of people off, legalizing recreational drugs would work far better to generate tax money, save money spent on prison and cops, and probably increase public safety in a number of different ways- for example, regulating drug quality; putting dealers out of business; and instituting age minimums for purchase and/or use of the newly legalized substances (which would probably have the paradoxical effect of making drugs less easily accessible to kids).

Yeah cops suck and I agree, but why are there all these people who find it so hard to follow traffic rules/laws that enable the cops to turn ticket writing into a revenue stream?

Because they're stupid. They think the rules are stupid so they refuse to follow them or they think they can get away with it.

I guess they didn't have mommies that taught them to follow rules and punished them every time for breaking them  :zoinks:

If I had more money I'd break the fucking speed limits and seatbelt law and parking rules every day just for the lulz.

A bunch of them hang out on the interstate here in a place where the speed limit decreases.  Some mornings, I see maybe five to seven of them handing out tickets along this short stretch of the interstate and one with a speed gun up on the bridge over the interstate telling them who's speeding so they know who to pull over.
The CHP likes to use this gang tackling technique, having one Officer run the radar and a Command call in the cars license to a bunch of Patrol cars in succession.

Also because radar detectors aren't 100% reliable.
