My senses are fucked up
I can smell gas
And before, I could feel something, and it wasn't there
I could actually feel it with my hands though, as if it was actually there, the same way I can feel these keys I'm pressing
wtf is this and why is it happening?
How do I get my senses back to normal?
My sight and hearing are messed up too, but they always have been

I can smell gas that other adults usually can't smell too. My daughter can smell it too, though. I think that maybe we just have sensitive noses.
I don't know how to fix this.

I was told the other day that (I don't remember this though) I used to see colours round people's heads when I was little. I don't remember seeing them though or telling anyone about it.

I often smell gas, too. Other people can't smell anything and they think I'm nuts, but my sense of smell is really sensitive.
I've never seen auras around anyone's heads or anything like that. Sometimes when I go from the bright sunlight into a dark room, I feel really weird and "trippy" for a second or two. I've heard most people do this.

A guy in my support group can do this! He's an airplane mechanic, and he does this at work.

I can smell when it is burning oil or antifreeze or when the air filter needs changing or things like that.

I can tell if the fuel mix is off or if it's burning to hot also and also if the clutch plates or brakes are wearing thin

I can't smell anything autistics can smell. I wonder if my brother can smell that gas too, whatever you guys are talking about. I know he has sensitive smell too. Amazing how NTs can have a few autistic traits too but not be on the spectrum.
At first I was confused about what Soph was talking about. Doesn't everyone smell gas?
Then I realized you guys were talking about gas lot of people can't smell but only people with sensitive smell can.
Anyways, about every time my boyfriend touches me, it hurts. I can't stand the feel of kissing because it's wet. I always have to wipe my lips. I don't know if that's normal. I don't see other people rubbing their mouths after they get kissed so I assume it's just me who can't stand the feeling. I can't even stand all fabric either. I couldn't even wear jeans when I was little.
But I think anyone can smell something first like in their own car and they can hear something unusual first before anyone else can. I think it's because they know their car very well and other people don't so they don't know what they are supposed to be hearing or smelling.
I can imagine when anyone buys a brand new car, they can still smell the fresh new scent but no one else can anymore. I think it's because the owner is expecting the smell so they are still smelling it.

I know water heaters put out a smell when there is a leak. That is something everyone can smell because it tells you it's leaking.
At my parents house we run on propane for heat and when it gets low, the furnace puts out a gas smell. The first time it happened, my parents thought we had a leak so she hired a guy and he said it was working okay and we are low on propane and that's what it was doing.

I smelled it at my in-law's house and I kept trying to convince them to get someone out to check the furnace but they said that had just been checked and they couldn't smell anything. Neither could my husband. Anyway, they wound up having the furnace replaced months later and the smell went away.

What about sounds?
I made a fuck-up the other week, when I went to the mental health assessment. They asked if I ever heard things that weren't there, and (because I'd decided I'd answer completely honestly so I got the right help) I said yes. But only because of my AS I think. The sound of the radiator (you know when it's quiet and you can hear the sounds it makes) sounds like people talking sometimes, and things like that. So I hear voices when no one's there, but only because I'm mishearing things that no one else notices (I am hypersensitive to background noise). It's annoying though because now I'm scared to talk to them about a real problem I have, incase they associate it with that and think I'm crazy.

Another time, I smelled natural gas odorant smell in our house, so I went straight out and bought a carbon monoxide and gas detector and installed it in the basement where the furnace is and it detected nothing. Then I replaced the furnace filter since it had been a while since I had replaced it and the smell went away.

I am a bit paranoid about carbon monoxide now. I get paranoid about things if I read about them, and I read about it a lot after Michael and Sophie died. I do that with illnesses as well. That's why I'm scared to research symptoms when I'm ill; I find things that are worse than I actually am, and convince myself that I have that.

Detectors for CO aren't very expensive, so you could get one if you are concerned.

There are smells I like or can stand but lot of people can't stand it. Unleaded gas, permament marker, that spray stuff teacher use on the boards to wipe it off, skunks, that perfume stuff that sprays.
If someone uses too much spray perfume on them, it seems like lot of people can't stand the smell because they complain about it to the person who is wearing it. The skunk smell used to bother me but I got used to it but lot of people still hate the smell so I wouldn't bother getting the smell into my own home, same as all the other smells I mentioned. I wouldn't want it on me either.
I always wonder why is it that I like the smell of unleaded gas and permenent markers, and that spray stuff teachers use on their boards, and they also don't bother me. Is it me being insensitive to smells? Sometimes I can't smell something other people are smelling and it takes me longer to finally notice it. Sometimes I don't even smell something. I probably have something wrong with my sense of smell so it makes me not smell everything I am supposed to smell. Maybe there is something in the unleaded gas smell other people are smelling I can't smell, same as with the other smells that I don't mind.

I have lots of sensory issues either to much information or not enough with some overlap thrown in for good measure also :-\
SG you are not alone with liking those smells I have always liked skunks and unleaded gas your to young to remember regular leaded gas that was even better :green:
Double jointed also but beginning to pay the price in aches and pains as I get older:(

you should specify to them what you meant with the voices.

tell them it's not real voices you hear, just voices that you think are people talking because your ears are so sensitive.

I can remember when I was being shown how to do turn down, I was hearing the TV in one of the rooms and I said "I'm hearing voices" and the office clerk says "You are?" and I said "They must have the TV on," I go in the room and the TV was on and the office clerk said "You have good ears."
I bet she thought I was talking about hallucinating.

I think it could be the onset of schizophrenia. You're at the common age.
As long as the voices aren't talking about you, you'll be ok.
I used to hear voices, and I was convinced other people's (real) conversations were very negative towards me.
Weed induced paranoid psychosis - scary shit. I probably have a bit of schizophrenia.
