Maybe if you have thirty kids?

It does look kind of crazy to have so much room, but that cylindrical tower room with the conic roof looks pretty.  I wonder if it is a conservatory.

I would use it as a studio.

I actually love big houses, or at least exploring them and looking at the plans. If I lived in one it would probably mostly be deserted. I haven't even brought myself to use the bedroom in my one bedroom apartment here.

Heating and maintaining one of those must cost a fortune in itself.

I don't know what the tower room is I didn't work on the house just picked up stuff my brother left there for me to get.  It's in Westport Ct most of the new houses down there are big like this.  I would rather have a lot of land with several barns for workshops and stuff and a small house.

Heating and maintaining one of those must cost a fortune in itself.

The boiler room is big and noisy that was where the stuff I had to get was.  As for heating and cooling  they must pay a lot but not as much as you'd think they went all out on the insulation and sealing.  That's what my brothers specialty is controlling heating and cooling costs and sound in high end homes.

We have a four bedroom 2 bath house that's about 1500 square feet

anything over a 1,000 square feet is huge in my opinion

I have worked on ones up to about 30,000 square feet including Mariah Carey's house in Westchester.  I don't think she ever lived in it though it was when she was going out with the guy from Sony it had a pool and recording studio in it.

It's just to show off... no other reason.  Show off how much money you've got.  I've worked on lots of houses like that.

McMansions, Plywood Palazzo, Faux chateaus, Starter Castles, Tract Mansions.

I think they're bullshit and the people who build them are assholes.

When you have 100 million USD, the question arises of what to do with it.

And I live in one of the parts of the country where these people live
I have worked on ones in Greenwich Ct that the people had made to be exactly like their other houses so things would be familiar when they traveled

How about setting up a fund for use building a new section at the local library, the Make A Wish Foundation or some other decent charitable endeavor?

I wouldn't be interested in funding another Jaguar for some asshole doing "research"  to cure leukemia, but sending a sick kids to a ball games or out to the mountains one last time would be really cool.

If I had that much money, I'd probably spend it on hobby projects.  100 million USD would easily get me a high-tech machine shop and computer lab, and I could hire people to work in them, then show them things that I wanted them to create and say 'make it so'.  Few people seem to have the imagination or inclination for that though, thus the market for mini-castles to soak up all that excess wealth that these people don't have the imagination to deal with in a more appropriate fashion.

Some spend it on worthy things charities and all but it's just amazing how many spend it on this.  No imagination your right I would not even live around here if I had money like this too expensive.  I would like a farm with workshops for my projects and probably give quite a bit of it away how much do you really need?   On a side note the guy who started and owned ABC building supply who was worth over one billion dollars died this past year after inspecting his own roof when he fell.  Money means different things to different people

100 million dollars? One idea I have is to go to the adult sections of hospitals where it is really bland and boring and cheer it up by decorating it sort of like the kids' sections. Bright paint and pictures and stuff for sick adults to do like they have in children's hospitals.

I got the impression that people in USA and UK live in two-storey houses. They are not all that common here.

(Did I really type, "a kids to a ball games?"  :hide:)

You would probably still have an annoying sum left over that you would have to deal with. Maybe you could fix me up with a small interferometer for my continued audio research.

:D

I'd probably end up in the terrible position of making a profit on my research activities, and then I'd need more staff and more facilities, which would mean more profits...

Space is at a premium here, so one-story homes are an expensive luxury and the poorest people live in tower blocks.  Small two-story semi-detached homes are common among the modestly prosperous.

Also from a construction point of foundations and roofing are expensive adding a extra floor is an economical alternative as it takes up the same foot print when we added on it's what we did

No bricks?  Our garage is made of wood, and it's constantly getting damp and rotting, and needs to be painted with preservative each year.

No bricks except the foundation not even in the chimney. It is sided with vinyl siding so no painting but that was because of expense I prefer wood and don't mind the upkeep.
Most houses around here are wood stick built construction when you see stone and bricks they are usually just veneer here.
