On the other hand this could cause a black hole and destroy us all. This sounds pretty damn crazy to me, even though I doubt it will work.
What do you think?

The experiment is pretty safe as I understand it. Time travel is probably doable, but in the far future. We can slow down time even now.

According to Hawkins' theory it is safe. We won't know until it is really done, whether it is truly safe or not.

I think the Russians are clever. I heard they invented a secret cloaking device a year or so ago.
I thought time travel was considered theoretical possible since general relativity. No idea if it will ever be do-able.
I would bet not; moreover on this planet I think nuclear annihilation would occur far before even remotely possible.
No idea really though :orly:
-
i think anythings possible. including time travel, are there other dimensions we cant see? didnt they already prove that one? :plus:
-
There are dimensions that we can't see.
There is a supposedly small risk that this could open a black hole lol. Theory is that the black hole would dissapate fast enough so that it wouldn't suck in our entire planet from what I remember.

Nothing can be 'proven' in natural science.
We have time travel now, it's just limited.
Funny thing is, though the television commentator
hints about travel backwards I saw nothing
to indicate anything like that in the clip.

i :pinkbeat: russians

Russian scientists believe in all sorts of kooky things like abiogenic petroleum origin

Even if backward time travel is possible, I hope our species never figures it out. I'd be worried about causality loops.
Other dimensions sound interesting, though.

I'd LOVE them. Paradox is my goal.

Not quite true, mathematics can prove the possibility of it.

Given certain assumptions. I can define a mathematics which
proves more than the possibility, but the necessity. Likewise,
that proves it impossible.

There is only one mathematics.
Define what you like: use it for toilet paper.

Ah, so you must be an applied mathematician.
Which are merely engineers in drag.

Did that hurt?
-
Yeah, I'm going to slash my wrists when i stop crying.
-
:zoinks:
Can I have a drink?
-
Wish they could invent something like Bernard's watch.
To stop time. I would never be late then :green:
Nearly bought a book on time travel the other day, looked like the one out of Donnie Darko :zoinks:
Didn't have enough money though :(

The Russians are going back in time first. Before we know it, everyone will be speaking Russian and the KGB will own everything.

Think it's started. Look at the shift in US liberties. :toporly:

Why the fuck would the world government want to share that information with us?
They would lose their power. Time travel is real though and it will be available if the Illuminati gets their fucking way
when new world order comes they can have it all to themselves while the rest of the human population is killed or highly controlled.
-
no time travel is not possible. going back in time would cause an irreperable fuckitall moment. i can't believe they are saying this. it's bullshit, god can't allow time travel. it is the single worst thing that could happen.
-
i would love time travel
i would go back to last year

I like the idea of it collapsing the false vacuum (if there is one). Or a stable strangelet.

the illuminati are idiots if they think time travel is possible. i heard also that the illuminati have tried time travel but that can't be allowed to happen. if there's one rule in this universe it should be no time travel. ever. the act in itself would cause a paradox and a fuckitall moment that would destroy everything that ever was is or would be. it would be the single most terrible thing.
-
it would cause me to be happy
that's a good thing :P
-
well, if it didn't cause a paradox and other shit, i would go back too. to save some people. :-\ i really would love to.
-
i would save sophie
-
i know you would. :) i would save Jonathan Brandis. he was so special.
-
Logic would dictate that if time travel were possible some idiot would have already tried to use it and destroyed the universe in the process, or anything you do in the past must trigger the events that influence the future where you started your time machine. You probably couldn't do much if you made one.
Think about it, if you saved Sophie, the even that caused you to decide to go back in time and save her wouldn't happen. It must not be possible to do it, something would interfere with you trying because if creating such a paradox was possible, one would have occured long before the opportunity you had to create yours and we'd all be dead.
-
I know it's not possible :(

thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :plus: :plus: :plus: finally someone said it. i've been trying to explain this to people. it's only logical ffs!

Maybe if someone like Ahayes got control of such a machine, then things could go wrong.
If the people who will have control of the time machine decide not to risk backward time travel, or to attempt it responsibly (anybody read Timeline by Michael Crichton?) then such a paradox could be avoided.
-
It is possible scientifically. That doesn't mean it has happened, yet. The Russians supposedly haven't used it yet. Either way, I am eagerly awaiting whatever happens when they try. The fact that it was pretty much announced will make the world more interested in what happens.
Nobody has tried to use it, because it wasn't technologically possible until now. That is at least what we are led to believe.
-
Maybe our time period is just not interesting enough, nor our place. There is an almost infinite amount of combinations as to where and when they can go.
