NAPLES, Fla. - Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson quit the Republican presidential race on Tuesday, after a string of poor finishes in early primary and caucus states.
"Today, I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort," Thompson said in a statement.
Thompson's fate was sealed last Saturday in the South Carolina primary, when he finished third in a state that he had said he needed to win.
In the statement, Thompson did not say whether he would endorse any of his former rivals. He was one of a handful of members of Congress who supported Arizona Sen. John McCain in 2000 in his unsuccessful race against George W. Bush for the party nomination.
Shame I don't agree with him but I think it would have been fun to have a current TV actor running seeing that Law and Order reruns are still on a lot. Any other thoughts?
-
Yeah, would they have to give other candidates equal
time? :zoinks:
I know that was an issue back when Reagan ran,
so they didn't run his movies.
-
That's exactly what I was thinking as his positions there weren't far from what he was saying and TNT would have a hard time not running them becuse he made so many
-
But, they were running them during
the primaries, no? Which they shouldn't
have either.
-
I know when Giuliani was running for mayor in NYC he gave up his local radio show on WABC
-
the guy scared the shit out of me every time he was on the news
-
Then again, cable access is different.
No one made a stink about the 700 club,
when robertson ran.
-
That's because he's batshit insane.
-
the guy scared the shit out of me every time he was on the news
Why?
-
I keep mixing him up with Jack Thompson. No way in hell would I vote for that sack of shit lawyer.
Fred Thompson according to my grandparents is actually supposed to be a cool guy. Don't know anything about him though, and don't think I like him over the other candidates.

Well, he hasn't aged well. His wife looks like she doesn't have anything going on upstairs.

Looks like she's got something going on, on the front porch. :P Anyway, I never took him seriously, he was just another "messiah" to the Reaganite Cult that just can't get it thru their tunnel vision that the Reagan Presidency was NOT the Golden Age of American Society, any more then the Clinton era was the Golden age of its time if you listen to the Clintonites. There were pluses and minuses in both era's. Oh well, I expect that eventually we'll start hearing about the "DUBya" era as another "Golden Age". :P ::)

When everyone KNOWS that the Nixon era was. :eyelash:
