Title: Why, How, Who, When, Where, and what.
Post by: McGiver on June 01, 2006, 05:16:26 AM
Why= so people wont be subjected to fear of evil administrators or other members.

How=just post

Who=members and guests

When=ever you have something to say (ideally about site direction)

Where= Free For All Forum

What=there must be ground rules.

There are four people on this site who can see who the people who post really are.  and we agree that there will be no retaliation and we will respect your privacy.

in exchange for the ability to post anonymously, you agree to give up certain rights that the members have.
therefore, if you are not willing to own up to your words and you post, here, anonymously, then you are subject to actual rules.  meaning that typical rules at other forums will apply to you.  if you flame it will not be deleted but moved to duncs sin bin (which the members can read).
duncs sinbin is the place of no respect.  the post was and the views of these posts pretty much get no respect at all.  so don't waste your time.
If you want to flame someone you may do so, as a registered member with your name attatched.  and the post will not be moved (only under rare circumstances will it be moved to duncs sin bin, it hasn't happened yet).
If you are someone with an idea but are too embarrassed to share it, then this is the place for you to do it.

and to regular members:
no this is not the beginning of rules, we are not on a slippery slope here.  this is just allowing more people to chime in. and offer suggestions.  they cannot create polls or vote in them.  the members choose the direction of the site through votes.  guests may speak in very limited capacity and do not enjoy the same freedoms as members.

did i forget anything?

That's an excellent point, QuirkyCarly; I bet most of the guests are sock puppets.

Btw, you're very clever and funny.

and here i was thinking there were no rules.

just here.

there was a discussion about this forum before we made it available.  there were ground rules for various reasons, of which i cannot remember.

i am sooo tired right now.  my brain is only half functional.

The concept is that some people may be limited by what they say by knowing they aren't totally anonymous.  On here they can post as guests and be totally anonymous, or something like that.

  How quaint, that once upon a time people could post as anonymous guests.   :toporly: :heisenberg: :coolguy:

We had to stop it. The place was flooded with spam a couple of times.

The last time it was tried, the anonymous guests had powers beyond what should be granted to them. Being able to change posts of the ones that had posted before them. Bit like the community sock-puppet, with the difference that the ones who had posted before were not aware this could be. IIRC.

I don't think the board had that many new people posting when a guest was allowed to post.

Bugger, no unicorns here then. Have make do with narwhal poaching for the horns to flog on ebay as the 'real' article :D3
