That's strange...  Chateau Malescot St-Exupery and camembert always makes me want to rob and shoot people in the head...

erm...

is there anything sensible to say about that story?  i am completely boggled.  how stupid can people get before they're actually incapable of the metabolic processes required to continue breathing?

Do you really need to ask??  I think the ones that stop breathing are the ones that qualify for the Darwin awards.  As the wise lady who runs our local library stated,  "You can't fix stupid."

That shouldn't stop one from trying anyway.  As Robert E. Howard said in one of his poems,

"I swear by the light of the dawn
and not by the grip of the grave."

I'm as cynical and pessimistic as anyone, but, I refuse to give up even the smallest crumb of hope.  It's whats kept me going this long and I ain't about to stop now.

i think the only thing which keeps me going is a small, stupid bit of me which refuses to die.  sometimes, i really wish i could find it, and stamp on it.

And what would that accomplish?  If I did that it would prove to all the people who wrote me off long ago..........that they were right.  I live to prove them wrong. 8)

i understand what you mean.  but no-one's ever written me off, so i don't even have that satisfaction.  i always get, "well, with all the things you've got going for you, how come you can't sustain friends/a relationship/are always depressed/ have such a shit life?  sigh, i just don't understand it (i.e. what are you doing so badly wrong?)"  not particularly useful.

I'v had some of that too.  "Oh, he's so smart", "Why can't he apply himself?", "Whats wrong with you?",   yadda yadda yadda.  The last one is the phrase most burned into my brain.  Sometimes I get a little envious of the help and coaching my daughter gets nowadays.  Stuff that I didn't have way back when.  The first person who says, "Whats wrong with you?" to Amber is going to face the Father from HELL.  I won't have that burned into her brain, and so far I hope I'm succeeding.  I'v already had someone say that to my face, fortunately it was an old biddy of a social self righteous snob at my wife's catholic church.  Amber never heard that and so I controlled myself.  Barely.
