Interesting recommendation. Will have to try a couple of tracks out, sounds ideal for homicidal mornings when even fear factory or strapping young lad aren't heavy enough. >:D
You've probably got this if you like Max Cavalera but meh:

i would've said mansun et al manage to sound like whiny inspid twats all by themselves, myself. ;)
and now for my recommendation, for which you'll all go: ::)
sheer beauty - some of this is the closest to "god/the divine/the universe/whatever you call it" anyone will ever be able to get:

Neville Marriner is a favourite. He's conducted a fantastic version of Bach's St Matthew Passion.
-
oooooh, the st matthews... that first bit is sublime.
if you're ever going to get a version of "the lark ascending", though, get that one - i've got several, and no-one comes anywhere near iona brown's violin playing. absolutely transcendent.
-
I probably will, at some point. Like I said, Marriner is a favourite of mine.
-
i haven't posted the cd off, yet, so i'll sort that one out for as well, then.

Oooh, I *love* Baraka. I had the opportunity to screen the film the way it's supposed to be screened, in 70mm and 6-ch Dolby, at a film festival once. It's a shame it just disappeared, that film.

"Flash of the Blade" is one of the best heavy metal songs I have ever heard.
-
noone likes The Cure. you either love it or you don't have ears.
I think it takes a strong personal commitment to love music. How can I truly love music which I am not involved with. I can honestly say I LOVE the music I have made. Trying to love other's music is like an online relationship - you can't get very close, but if it's all ya got go for it. Just don't get confused.
-
don't knock online relationships man.
and you vodzy, yeah man you're earless. :violin:

Dissection - Storm of the Lights Bane. Decent production for a blackmetal CD of its era.

Oh, yes, I agree! Great band, Iron Maiden!! I've seen them many times, "back in the day" as us old farts like to say. They certainly re-defined a few things when they finally became successful.

-
odeon is that that classical shit that children of bodom played on there guitars?
No that is Vivaldi. Summer suite from the Four Seasons I believe. If not for some of the more awkward sweep arpeggios I am fairly certain I can learn that. Well they did divide it into two guitars, but didn't use their keyboardist as they would in studio or live on their actual songs.

"In the Nightside Eclipse" by Emperor is pretty good album. Despite the shitty vocals, the music helps to create an atmosphere of evil and darkness. A must have for those who are starting to take a genuine interest in Black Metal like I have done recently.

That song is pretty good. Sounds like Promethus somewhat. He is back with the King Diamondish vocals, not a whole lot of actual singing though. That is a nice purposefully off time riff there as well. Lots of vibrato + pinch harmonics in his more melodic guitar riffs along with the keyboards as usual.
Most of the pics are loading as red Xs. My favourite Slayer CD is either Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, or Seasons in the Abyss. Really I like most of their shit, even the new stuff which is pretty badass as well. I like Reign in Blood the most probably. I like Nemesis Divina the most out of Satyricon's CDs. I need to get some more Dark Tranquility to along with the At the Gates and In Flames that I have (all of both bands actually). Maybe pick up some of the more recent Hypocrisy and Therion. I hear Carcass might be getting back together but without Bill Steer (Michael Amott might have to take a break from Arch Enemy, no clue who the other guitarist is going to be). Damn you Bill Steer.

Bah. I wish I could do away with the stigma of the name "Hanson". 10 years will do remarkable things for a band's sound ya know. ;)

really can't shake the likelihood it might be squeaky clean guitar pop though.even if they don't have a track called 'mmmbop'.
I'd like to recommend this to anyone who has an elderly relative they wish something nasty on. Other than that its nowt special.

 I may be a fan, but I still have a sense of humor about it....

Depends on how one defines "squeaky clean" and "pop", but I suppose you're not HUGELY off. Meh, the title said recommend an album, so I did. There's probably better places to debate (or not) the merits of various styles of music. :)

they were very good even then. i mean, didn't they write their own shit? and they played their own instruments. the backstreet boys could sing and dance but they had their shit handed to them and they had their own band playing the music. Hanson was more creative that way and more organic of course.
anyway Dunc is just an emo bitch who doesn't appreciate some sunshine in music. :P

Yes, they've always had a hand in writing their own music, and now produce it as well, on their own label.
Dunc is certainly entitled to his musical taste, as are we all. I think I just jumped to conclusions that it wasn't about the current style that they play but just the stigma of bubblegum pop that these guys can't seem to shake. Which bugs me, because they're talented, and don't get enough credit. But if you don't like it, you don't like it, no big.
Little sample off the new album, if anyone's interested in the changes from the MMMBop madness.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcifAzv8-bU

there's nothing wrong with bubblegum pop. in fact it's been a dying breed ever since the 90s... i love Mika for bringing back real Pop instead of the bland calculated ick fest that's been around since the year 2000.

Broken was one of my favorite NIN CDs. Wish was a really good song and same with the one after it. I can't remember the song's name lol. I wish it was a full length CD, but oh well.

Hmm. Nobody's recommended a Fall album yet, so here goes:
Can't find any tracks from this particular album on You Tube, but here are a couple of Fall Songs :
Telephone Thing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Vy6FJQODCA
Victoria
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4VdcMXVO_g
(yep, it's a cover of the Kinks' song. They don't often do covers, but when they do, i usually prefer their cover to the original)
Btw, I've been trying to figure out what Fall fans have in common. Sod all, it would seem, except ...so far all the ones i've ever met (myself and my son included)turn out to be vegetarian.
Weird, huh? (any further data to throw into that pot?)

Heck it was hard to decide which Laurie Anderson album to recommend, but I've plumped for this one (for now)
And I've posted three lyrics from that album over here:
http://www.intensitysquared.com/index.php?topic=976.msg243509#new
And you can listen to some of the songs from it as well as songs from other albums at her website, here:
http://laurieanderson.com/index.shtml
(look in the top left corner, to change tracks)
Could I possibly try harder to interest you guys?
(She's my favourite musician, and most folks have ever even heard of her . I'm always lookingto make converts *grin*)

This is the only live Rock and Roll album from the 70's that really matters:
Iggy heckles the audience full of Hell's Angels, and you can hear bottles bouncing off of guitars and breaking on stage. --The Sound quality is kinda shitty, but the atmosphere and performance more than makes up for it.

I may not go so far as to say that it's the only one "that really matters", but I agree, it's KILLER!
