i am curious to know how many people here have to look at the keyboard as they type like i do.
-
I have to.
-
I dont really need to anymore most of the time, but then I have been a chat freak for so many years now. I know the positions of the keys by heart mostly.
-
Combo. I can kinda not look when I'm not thinking about it.

try our drunken chat saturdays!

I look once in a while, typing most letters without doing so.

I absolutely plan on it, although I tend to take a while to loosen up :green: I looked in the chatroom earlier, but was empty. I talk mostly on msn these days.

our drunken chat saturdays used to be popular before the holidays. maybe we can rekindle its popularity.
also it is a free for all like the forums; unmoderated.

I have to hunt and peck too, touch typing is too difficult for me yet.
-
I tend to not look mostly, but I voted for combo because sometimes I have to look when using Dunc's keyboard cos its a different size to mine and that throws me off.
-
Combo. I have big fingers, so tend to glance at the keyboard from time to time to correct my positioning and retype stuff when i've hit two keys at once (which is often).
-
I do both, probably more watching. Kind of like Dunc said, though, I get out of position too easily. Words seem to come out of my brain in pulses. I tend to pause and then blast a pulse of letter combos, not necessarily whole words. When I'm "on it", I can actually type fairly quickly that way, for an old fart. It may be from trying to play guitar.
-
I do both, but I probably look at the keyboard more than I look at the screen even though I don't have to--I know where the keys are. I'm pretty fast but I can sort of misplace my hands, in which case I have too take a peek. :green:
-
I mostly type without looking. I do look at the number keys though.
-
I don't know how to type. If I was asked, I would have to say no, I don't. I hunt and peck. But I don't look when I hunt and peck. I use I use my index fingers primarily, thumbs to space, right ring finger to backspace and shift and enter, and occasionally left ring finger to smack the big keys on the left. But I go REALLY fast.
-
I use my left index finger and my right middle finger to type and yes, I do have to look at the keyboard all the time. Except for the backspace key. I don't look for that!
Kayleigh types without looking at the keyboard but she does use the backspace key a fair bit.
-
I use my right index finger and left middle finger, and I look at the keyboard almost the entire time. :tard:
-
I can type fast without looking, on a proper keyboard.
On a stupid touchpad keyboard, hmm, I don't look either. But I make mistakes more often.
-
I voted assuming it was when dating. Oops. But when typing on a keyboard, the only time I have to look is when the keyboard accidentally gets shifted over to the side a bit so the keys aren't where my fingers expect them to be, so I have to briefly look to position the keyboard back again and then go back to touch typing. I didn't have to look to type this for instance. I can sort of see my fingers moving in my peripheral vision but only that there are fingers and there is motion going on.
-
I really don't look. I might peek with stuff in the v and x area because my keypad is crapping out ...I have to beat on it just right. :zoinks:
-
With modern offices, you have to look when you type so you don't hit the wrong keyboard. :P
-
Most of the guys in my class put me to shame because they are so fast at typing. It's almost embarrassing for me to type in front of the teachers.
I am older than all the other students and the only female in my class. :-\
-
Which means your the most gorgeous one in the class ren, so take that as a comforting factor. None of the rest are sexy as hell or presumably have that stare that sends shivers up and down my spine :P
Even if there were other females in your class, I'm pretty sure you'd outclass them all by a million miles :) *squeezes teh renster*

Last summer PA looked astonished as he realized I was typing without looking. The C (Average) in that class, Office Machines, kept me off the Deans List by .048 of a grade point. Damn right I'm going to type in revenge.

Thanks Lestat. So far I am doing ok. I want Certificate III!
And speaking of my stare, I managed to scare one of the teachers with it. She said it looked as though I was staring through the computer. I said not to worry, it's my resting bitch face. :D
-
Some of my colleagues are ridiculously fast at typing.
-
The PR is a one-finger typist. She uses Caps Lock when she needs to capitalize a letter.
-
Makes sense with one arm working perfectly and the other having trouble.
And thats hilarious ren. But..but...he didn't find it hawt thought?!? he obviously has no sense of taste whatsoever:P I certainly find your 'resting bitch face' rather captivating :)

The teacher was female. She's a substitute for another teacher and she doesn't know much about the advanced features of Excel, which is what she is meant to be teaching us. Quite funny.
-
When I touch type I do it pretty damn fast. Nobody has ever commented on it but thats probably because I'm generally in another room when I'm using the/a computer. The one I am using now is in a nice closely confined soundproofed room.
Although this is using a standard PC keyboard. I HATE the keyboards built into laptops, and the mousepads. Everything is in the wrong damn place.
-
Try switching from a Swedish keyboard to a UK keyboard. Took me a while to get used to.
-
Just to compare, here's an Urdu keyboard:

I've never seen my brother typing, but apparently he's fast enough to impress his co-workers.
He learned in high school and kept up the skill. I have never gotten past hunt-and-peck. :tard:
