OK, NOT 100% accurate, but Harrison Ford was involved in an airplane crash today just outside of Santa Monica Airport.
It appears that he was flying a Ryan PT-22 when the engine lost power shortly after take off.
He radioed the tower and attempted to return to the airport, but crash landed in a golf course instead.
He sustained moderate injuries but shoud be OK. The vintage plane however, may not be repairable. :'(

I didn't know Harrison Ford rescues people with his private chopper. :viking:

Harrison Ford is indeed :viking:

Harrison Ford is indeed :viking:
It wouldn't stop in the news and I'm sure Harrison was all like 'aw *bleep* they are still talking about this?!' imagine your life plastered on every major news 24 hour station...nightmare :probe:
-
Han Solo famous captain of the Millennium Falcon crashes on a golf course.
This had to be painful...and a bit embarrassing.
Glad he's okay...but the plane looks like a goner.

Perhaps he's thinking "there's no such thing as bad publicity"?? :dunno:

Yeah, and the golfers who were nearest to him rushed over to help becasue they were... ...doctors! :green: Go figure.

Not so sure about the embarassing part. The engine died on him during climb and he didn't have much altitude at that time. He's been given high marks on aviation borads for doing a good job of getting the plane down without a fatal crash.
Glad he's okay...but the plane looks like a goner.
I share Fords sorrow at this loss. :'(

Here's the audio feed of the control tower at Santa Monica Airport.
He was cleared to depart from runway 21 at 19:50 on this audio feed and he reported engine failure at 21:15: http://archive-server.liveatc.net/ksmo/KSMO-Twr-Mar-05-2015-2200Z.mp3 (http://archive-server.liveatc.net/ksmo/KSMO-Twr-Mar-05-2015-2200Z.mp3)

Apparently he did everything right, though. He is supposedly a good pilot.
-
:indeed: He has several thousand hours of flying, much of it done in a DHC-2 Beaver.

Indeed, how awful, the poor mega-rich superstar got some attention.
-
Not sure he wants the attention. He is rich, sure, which is how he got the airplane in the first place, but I very much doubt he cares for the attention that fact causes.
-
Yeah, it makes total sense that Hollywood types don't want no stinking attention. :zoinks:
-
I would imagine that at least some of them got into the business for somewhat different reasons.
-
Maybe a few.
-
Not sure he wants the attention.
All of Hollywood works off of attention. It's their currency.

Harrison Ford has a small fleet of airplanes, which you need to be rich to keep in the air. The Ryan PT-22 by itself is fairly inexpensive (I found one online for $70K), a middle class person could afford one. It's probably the cheapest plane he owns. People like H.F. buy these for the open cockpit experience and the unique sound of a 5-cyliner radial engine. :scrap:

Work, sure. Their own time, not necessarily.

Well, it's a double edged sword, isn't it?? Everyone wants attention when they have an upcoming project to be released but you can't shut off the attention like a light switch.
Anyways, getting back to H.F.'s plane. As it turns out, the Ryan PT-22 has some rather nasty slow speed handling characteristics which may have made his crash landing worse than if he had been in a different aircraft type. This video explains the issue from 2:28 to 3:00.

Have you ever flown in an open cockpit plane? It looks like fun, back when my kids were small there was a guy at the local small airport that offered rides in a open cockpit biplane but it was too expensive for me at the time.
-
Pretty nifty handling, then, to survive the problem.

No, there's a guy at Oceano airport who offers rides in a Boeing Stearman but it's $200 for a 20 min ride.

OK, NOT 100% accurate,
