Does anyone here know how I can get in contact with Lucas from WrongPlanet? He seems to be one of the most realistic autistics I've ever seen on the internet, and I was thinking of inviting him here in order for him to add some spice to this place.

I think he grew somewhat displeased by AFF due to the published scientific article of autism-functioning genetic tests that some of the admins were involved in. I remember reading how he used to be an Aspie elite, but that all changed when a low-functioning autistic punched him in the face out of disgust during one of his advocacy speeches.

In all serious, though, Eamonn, why do you think he was a fundamentalist? All he was doing was adding neutral input to any discussion pertaining to autism, wasn't he? I don't think he was trying to personally insult anyone online or anything.

Go back and read the article in which we had the debate in and the way he handled it. He was insulting, anything but nuetral and extreme in his attacks on anyone wanting a cure (or choice of) for autism andf refusal to accept the difficulties of parents of autistics or that autistics are disabled in any way, shape or form, despite admitting he needed help feeding. Though reading about his difficulties i can understand his anger over a world that values people by how NT/social they are and thinks that people with disabilities are any less 'people' than NT's.

I don't think that he was trying to imply that autistics weren't disabled because he wouldn't have claimed disability if that were the case. What he was trying to do, I believe, is dismiss the inconsistencies within the autistic community, such as the grounds for a cure, the autism spectrum, and that not every problem is caused by your autism alone -- that kind of bollocks.
Amanda Baggs (Anbuend) seemed to have worded it better than he did with the individual care bit.

Have you even read the fucking topic? He argued that very point and i pulled him up on it. I have always pointed out a cure is unlikely for a long time and autism is only a part of a person (and their troubles) and not the whole person.

Why should there be a cure for a condition with inconclusive origins on the basis of assumed impairments? Lucas posted some concrete facts about a team of Canadian researchers trying to find the impairments associated with autism -- and yet they couldn't find any.

Most people who are diagnosed with autism will need care for the rest of their lives. I think if you where a parent of someone with LFA you'd maybe see things differently. Of course some people with autism will lead fruitful and independant lives but so will some people with downs syndrome.

And just because someone has difficulties in some areas, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are liable for a cure. What about the non-autistics with little expression for anything? Why is there no fuss on them being cured?
