I have about 10 mosquito bites. Some tips for not being bit
(I can't tell you how bad the bites itch. like a motherfucker!)
1. be female, mosquitos like males ...what's that word again?.... its true
2. wear long sleave clothes, and pants. (hard to do in the summer time, and the mosquitos will more than likely just bite your face)
3. wear light colored clothing
4. use DEET at your own risk, remember your skin is the largest living organ on your body. I personally wouldn't use it but whateve
5. don't go outside
6. do all of your exercising in the morning when the mosquitos are lazy and just getting out of bed
7. get rid of any standing water you may have outside, as this is perfect breeding ground for the mosquito
thoughts, comments can be left below.

Ah, be female, you say.
They always went for me. The only time they went after my ex was when I left the room. Flees go for me too. If the cat has two flees, I get half of the lot.
-
My pop always got bit a lot too.
-
I don't get hives from the local mosquitoes any more. But, when I visit my mum, I will get hives.
My 15 year old is not reacting as strong on the bites as she used to do anymore also. Thank goodness. I live in mosquito street. :P

We have west nile virus here in the southwest, along with hanta virus. so I try to stay away from mice and mosqitos
the two m's. :thumbdn:
-
Was about to say, hantavirus, and HPS, sin nombre virus, etc. are spread by mice, not mozzies, but you covered that.
The real fuckers are Aedes albopictus, the asian tiger. Great fucking big evil looking bastards, with a bite to match, and they vector an awful lot of nasty ass arbovirus infections.
I try to catch and release anything that comes into the house, but the asian tigers are an import, and a dangerous one at that. They just meet sudden, swift and terminal retribution if they come in here looking to feast on my tender veins. I am the only one allowed to poke holes in those :P

I have lots of mosquitoes here even during the day. When I work in my outdoor/shed work area I keep a large ventilation fan going, mosquitoes can't handle flying in the breeze

Indeed. When it will get hotter overnight, I will put a fan on the landing, and we'll all sleep with our doors open. Cooler, and keeping mosquitoes a bit more away. I've got the windows upstairs covered with mosquito-nets pinned to the window frames.
They are said not to like ceder wood btw. I had a cederwood balm, 20 years ago, and it did have some positive effect.
What I hate far more than mosquito bites are attacks of horseflies. If you get bitten by them, disinfecting the bite helps a lot. Povidone Iodine is good for that. The hives get so large, not because of a fluid brought into the wound by the insect, but because it's saw-lined beak is full of dirt and bacteria.

:M
Those are better dead than alive.
Most I see are smaller than that. But, no matter what the size, shape, or colour, I don't like the horsefly family.
-
Those are the kind we get around here. I mean as soon at you go outside theres like five of them waiting to rape you. I have a big flyswatter hanging right by the door just for the purpose of killing them right away.

Where I live now, it's triangular ones, size of a blowfly, either in brown camouflage colours, or in iridescent green patterns, pretty, but at their best when dead. At my mother's, it mainly small ones shaped like the one you showed, maybe 2 cm long. Have seen big ones too.
-
Omg, yes. Horseflies are fucking nasty little beasts, Down by the Colorado river they are out for blood.
We don't have them up here in the mountains however. :prude:

My pop always got bit a lot too.
So did mine. I used to be moderately attacked, now I only get 2 or 3 bites per year.
Sometimes I think my medication makes me smell bad to them. Or maybe I just don't go outdoors enough. :tard:

I want this game!

Disinfect them as soon as you can, after the bite, Lit. And the damage will be a lot less.
-
I will remember that.
We have two kinds here: big and smaller ones. I have never been bitten by a big one, though the bite from a small one is pretty nasty too. It seems like the big ones only go for horses.

Do you have the triangular ones too?

Yup. Didn't know they were horseflies, though.
-
We all managed not to fall prey to the horseflies today. They tried, but did not succeed. :headbang2:

It's a big family. (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dazen)

Bump.
After being nearly immune for mosquito bites for a long time, I now get bitten a lot, all bites turn into hives, and some into massive swelling with itching and pain. Could not wear a shoe on my left foot yesterday. There was no ankle in sight, and my foot looked like a red balloon, with some toes attached to it. Last couple of weeks stuff like this is happening to me.
Been delving into it a bit. Apparently if your intake of vit B is high enough, you get bitten less, and bites will be less annoying, if you do get to be targeted. Medication is taking a toll on my vit B levels, I think. It is an utter bitch.
-
I fucking hate mosquitos.
-
hyke. the mosquitos here also cause massive pain and swelling, and I don't really even remember them being this bad
I usually put alo vera on mine. doesn't work all the way but it does cool the area off
-
When the swelling is really massive, like not being able to wear my shoes, I use vinegar dressings and coolpacks. Lidocaïne can be great on smaller patches, and a balm with clove extract in it.
No matter what the outcome of my bloodtest next week, I will increase my intake of vitamine B complex, especially vitamine B1. There are way more reports that say that it does work, than people saying it is a scam. And I do only get massive reactions on bites now that my vitamine B levels probably have lowered.
