Title: The difficulty that it is to collect Fire agate.
Post by: Jesse on June 04, 2013, 06:57:05 PM
Here is a trip I made out to Oatman, Az. and FA hunting, this was this past winter so It wasn't hot.
It sure will make you appreachiate the beautiful difficulty it is to mine this stuff let alone find a gem quality piece.

The picture with the cones along side the road are a mine. (yes there is a fire agate mine right next to the road)  >:D

Included is a nice gem quality one from Oatman that I own

I did not find it, I bought it. conservatively it is worth $35-40 a carat. It weighs 10.4 cts

but it is from Oatman.

Thanks Jack

Do you need a cutter and buffer to pretty them up?
Title: Re: The difficulty that it is to collect Fire agate.
Post by: Jesse on June 05, 2013, 08:30:39 AM
well you need several things. a rock saw, and a good diamond belted grinder/polisher
not every piece will have gem layering in it, so its like finding a needle in a haystack

Now I vision Richard as a kind of Donald Trump ruling a fire agate imperium in twenty years.

And then, in twenty years, when his face is on the news, I'll think: "Once, I knew him, on I2".

Still thinking it is a good idea to look at the possibilities Richard. Maybe you can sell things you find, and fund other purchases with the profit. Cut through other minerals often go well for sale too. You could earn it back, and more.

How handy are you?(Those photos you posted in the past are not what I am talking about ;) ) Some of the stuff you may be able to put together yourself out of cheaper components.  Harbor Freight has some cheap diamond blades for cutting ceramic tile on an angle grinder or tile saw they could work.  I have also seen diamond belts for small sanders online. You have the advantage in you want then for yourself not to sell so extra time is not lost profits

Title: Re: The difficulty that it is to collect Fire agate.
Post by: Jesse on June 06, 2013, 10:21:10 AM
Well, they are a very underrated gemstone. Can be found in the areas only in the southwestern part of America, and some parts of mexico. Havent been found anywhere else in the world.

Have a similar color play to fine black opal, only much harder and they don't lose their color. Opals tens to dry out because water inside the stone gives opal its color. This isn't the case for Fire Agate, Iron Oxides coat the layers of agate and light passing through them Interfers with it giving it a rather beautiful shiller effect

Much like if you have oil in your garage and you get the hose and wet the oil spil, you will see rainbow colors in the sun. This is what is going on inside the Fire agate

Post by: MLA on June 06, 2013, 10:23:15 AM
cool :)

how are they formed?
Title: Re: The difficulty that it is to collect Fire agate.
Post by: Jesse on June 06, 2013, 10:28:28 AM
The short answer? volcanos. thermal processes in the earth, but nobody knows exactly how they are formed.
This is just the leading theory. Some think that the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs helped in their creation because of a spash pattern found on a map coinciding with that crater in the in the yucatan

Yes. And according to Zarah Ghahramani in her book My Life As A Traitor there is some resentment about the Koran needing to be read in Arabic among a fair number of Persians and making jokes playing off of the Arabic language is a fairly common type of humor in Iran.

List it when I got da money, I have a paypal and the transaction will be Immeadiate. When I have the money, I'll let you know which will be on the 26th of dis month. ebay takes too large a cut of the final sale price.  And PayPal takes a cut also, if sold on eBay.

You can simply switch money from your Paypal to his. For free.
All you need is his Paypal email.

But there is no buyer protection.

Well, he can decide. It would only be listed like half a day at the most. I'm sure that isn't going to cost him too much on Ebay
Otherwise, I would much rather it be on ebay. because I've never used paypal alone to pay for something, I only know how to use it on Ebay.
