Here is a trip I made out to Oatman, Az. and FA hunting, this was this past winter so It wasn't hot.
It sure will make you appreachiate the beautiful difficulty it is to mine this stuff let alone find a gem quality piece.
The picture with the cones along side the road are a mine. (yes there is a fire agate mine right next to the road) >:D
Included is a nice gem quality one from Oatman that I own
-
You found that? What's it worth?
-
That's awesome, Richard.
-
You found that? What's it worth?
I did not find it, I bought it. conservatively it is worth $35-40 a carat. It weighs 10.4 cts
but it is from Oatman.
Thanks Jack
-
Cool pics. Nice 10.4 stone. :plus:
-
Thank you. Oatman is a true wild wild west town, I'd like to live there. If you ever go there are donkeys in the street al the time, and they shit fucking everywhere. :blonde:
-
Can you rent donkeys there?
-
Are there donkey shows?
-
Show us pictures of the ones you mined?
-
Sure Mcjaguar. these I did mine from there, they are not even close to being gem quality.
Cassanova, The donkeys are wild, I don't think you can rent them.
-
Do you need a cutter and buffer to pretty them up?
-
well you need several things. a rock saw, and a good diamond belted grinder/polisher
not every piece will have gem layering in it, so its like finding a needle in a haystack

do yo own any of the equipment needed?
How much to purchase a starter set?
-
No, I don't have any of the equipment. those things can run you a few hundred dollars a piece
-

Buy it a piece at a time. My gun safe did not get filled up over night.

Could be the start of a great new way of enjoying fire agates. Might be worth delving into the options.

:agreed: Rome was not built in a day. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. One small step for man, a giant leap for mankind. Liberty, equality, fraternity. Peace, land, bread. Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer! In God We Trust. Cogito ergo sum. Eppur si muove.

Now I vision Richard as a kind of Donald Trump ruling a fire agate imperium in twenty years.
And then, in twenty years, when his face is on the news, I'll think: "Once, I knew him, on I2".
Still thinking it is a good idea to look at the possibilities Richard. Maybe you can sell things you find, and fund other purchases with the profit. Cut through other minerals often go well for sale too. You could earn it back, and more.
-
How is fire agate made? How is it different from other rocks and gemstones?

In this explanation Richard really shines.

How handy are you?(Those photos you posted in the past are not what I am talking about ;) ) Some of the stuff you may be able to put together yourself out of cheaper components. Harbor Freight has some cheap diamond blades for cutting ceramic tile on an angle grinder or tile saw they could work. I have also seen diamond belts for small sanders online. You have the advantage in you want then for yourself not to sell so extra time is not lost profits
-
Thanks you guys. I find it easier to just buy them already cut, :zoinks:
otherwise I would cut some rough I have. I'm so lazy though

I'm guessing. Either way, I can't win. why I keep answering you I don't know

-
maybe duck can hire MLA as her attorney and we can go to people's court.
I'll snatch a bitches weave off in the peoples court
-
Tell us about fire agates. now I want to know too
-
Well, they are a very underrated gemstone. Can be found in the areas only in the southwestern part of America, and some parts of mexico. Havent been found anywhere else in the world.
Have a similar color play to fine black opal, only much harder and they don't lose their color. Opals tens to dry out because water inside the stone gives opal its color. This isn't the case for Fire Agate, Iron Oxides coat the layers of agate and light passing through them Interfers with it giving it a rather beautiful shiller effect
Much like if you have oil in your garage and you get the hose and wet the oil spil, you will see rainbow colors in the sun. This is what is going on inside the Fire agate
-
cool :)
how are they formed?
-
The short answer? volcanos. thermal processes in the earth, but nobody knows exactly how they are formed.
This is just the leading theory. Some think that the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs helped in their creation because of a spash pattern found on a map coinciding with that crater in the in the yucatan
-
neat
-
The last two I bought are out for delivery. I can't wait to get them! :prude:

People from Iran are Persian, a completely different ethnic group.

Do people in Iran read the Quran? Arabs do. :zoinks:

Nice try. No mention of the Quran in your first post though, which is what I was replying to. :autism:
-
Muhammed (PBUH) was Arab. Being Muslim requires you to also become Arab. Being Persian, is sinful.
I'm just kidding man. I really don't care, Although I do like that Persian religion you had before Islam took Iran over

Yes. And according to Zarah Ghahramani in her book My Life As A Traitor there is some resentment about the Koran needing to be read in Arabic among a fair number of Persians and making jokes playing off of the Arabic language is a fairly common type of humor in Iran.

-
Uh is it still at the same price? I'll have da money at the end of the month if its still for sale homie!
-
Same price......I'll PM you if you've deleted my previous message.
I'll still have it by the end of the month.
Not trying hard to sell it at the moment.
This piece should be in your collection.
-
Sweet. dude! Oh, how I love that baby. And yer right It would look amazing in my collection!
I think the best way to go about this transaction, if you already don't have it on Ebay is to put it there, when the time is right. List it when I got da money, I have a paypal and the transaction will be Immeadiate. When I have the money, I'll let you know which will be on the 26th of dis month. List it then On Ebay, and I'll swoop on in and buy that baby from you!
Thanks so much man, I'll really give it a good home!
-
Are there donkey shows?
I see what you did there. I'm watching your posts. :police:

Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara, to Parsi parents ( ethnic Persians from India ), and was raised Zoroastrian. :orly:

I burn in a wood stove.....there is no odor to speak of.
Favorite woods are well seasoned red oak & black locust.
-
My favorite wood to burn is called Ironwood. you can find it out in the desert, don't remember if it has a good smell though

ebay takes too large a cut of the final sale price. And PayPal takes a cut also, if sold on eBay.
You can simply switch money from your Paypal to his. For free.
All you need is his Paypal email.
But there is no buyer protection.
-
Well, he can decide. It would only be listed like half a day at the most. I'm sure that isn't going to cost him too much on Ebay
Otherwise, I would much rather it be on ebay. because I've never used paypal alone to pay for something, I only know how to use it on Ebay.

An intellectual superior such as yourself cannot use a point and click money exchange like Paypal? It isn't rocket science.

I am aware your remedial reading skills make books with pictures more appealing. Grown ups don't need pictures to enjoy reading. :nerdy:
-
Exept, I see no books or pictures. What I see here is an opinionated opinion, with a lame attempt at humor.
I think, your delusions are returning. Maybe its time to post a picture so you can be back in reality
