Title: The mystery of the Latin pillow
Post by: TheoK on May 12, 2013, 02:33:38 PM
I was in Göteborg two days ago and had lunch at Språkcaféet. (http://www.sprakcafeet.com/) On a chair was a pillow with a Latin text on it. I could have asked the owner where she got the pillow, but I didn't. Today I googled it. It turns out that the text is from Horace, that these pillows exist all over the world and that they are made in - China!

If I fill my apartment with these pillows, will I become a person of culture and sophistication?   :toporly:

Nope.  You won't be able to move, but you won't hurt yourself if you happed somehow to fall down.

It's not like road signs in Spanish are hard to decipher.

In Sweden almost every road sign is in Swedish. A few are in English and even fewer are in German.

 :autism:

It's a pun, although I was drunk when typing that. It should be eques. Equites is the nominative plural. I still don't have the instinctive feeling for Latin that I have for English and German.
