Title: Close call
Post by: Parts on May 11, 2013, 04:14:31 PM
My wife and I were on the way to my father's today to fix his oven when we grazed a deer on the highway the pick up next to us got a direct hit with heavy hood and grill damage but no injuries.  We were in my wife's car and she was driving and did a great job of avoiding it, I thought it was going to come through the windshield but all we got was some cracked trim.  This was the first time I was in a car that hit one although I have been close many times. Anyone else ever hit one

Been close too many times, I'm in the habit of looking over in the fields ahead now, although one came barreling down a hillside in front of me out of nowhere just a few days ago. Need to repaint the brush guard but hate to take it off to do it, it offers a little protection for the grill at least.

Turkeys all over too, they don't look like much but they can do some nice damage too if you hit one.

Glad she was able to avoid that I've seen big SUV's with some horrific damage from them.

Poor everybody (and the deer).  Glad the two of you are safe.

No, I've not hit any deer.  I have hit a pigeon, one dog (injured, not killed) and a turtle (hit it trying to avoid hitting it.)

I'm going to put a squirrel tally on the front I think. I'm not sure if it's the color purple that drives them to try to commit suicide or if they just know I'm freaked out by hitting them.

I had one that used to play chicken with me same spot every fucking morning ...always managed to run between my tires though, someone finally nailed his furry little ass months later I saw...wasn't me...I was rather sad to see him go.

Just talked to my brother he went on about how we should have kept the deer and eaten it which evidently in Ct you can as compensation for your damages :zombiefuck:

Same here...and if you don't want it, usually someone comes along at the scene of the accident and throws it in the back of their truck.

I love venison but not sure if I would want to eat a deer that had been mangled by a car   I would have to know more about the butchering to judge what was left that was good and if I wanted to try it

Depends on how severely they were hit too, normally the deer fairs better than the vehicle...as long as you prepare it right and it's a fresh kill it's fine.

Bow, Shotgun, Ford...I've had them all. I prefer a doe over a buck though, better taste.

Here too the police will give you a tag to put on it, without a tag they can arrest you for poaching

Would you brother have helped you load it into your wife's car?  It would have been messy.  Think Godfather, only bigger.
