Title: Big solar flare
Post by: Parts on April 13, 2013, 05:06:07 PM
There was a big solar flare and the Northern Lights may be visible tonight as far south as southern Ohio Link (http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/04/13/experts-northern-lights-could-appear-over-tri-state-area-saturday-night/)
I have never seen them before and will be out looking as soon as it's dark

I wonder if I will be able to see them here in my city, with all the artificial light.  :orly:

That is my concern also, and the fact that they said there is a 7 hour window starting at 8 eastern time

I love Northern Lights. I grew up north and while they weren't common, I've seen some big ones. :)

Nothing :'(  I even set up a camera in the back yard on a tripod that took shots every 5 minutes.

That's disappointing. I was glimpsing the horizon..but there were city lights and buildings so I doubt I would have seen anything.

Have you ever made a time-lapse video of the night sky?

Yes. Star trail images are the best.
