Since when do we hand out monopolies on a whim?
What is this?
We like them, so thats the criterium? We like them - we give them monopoly.
Google is treating us like bitches BECAUSE we have allowed them monopoly.
That. Is. The definition - of the dangers - of monopoly. Once all competition is squashed, they can begin to treat us like bitches. Merging, locking, forbidding. They even own Youtube ffs, and nobody minded "Oh, they own the biggest media outlet in the universe. Huh."
Is Yahoo still independent?
Does Yahoo have a search engine that works?
Does anybody here have any good suggestions, alternatives to Google?

niggers gone wild I see. nigger search engine dot com
You know, you seem so sure that the word "nigger" will make me sensitive and angry, even despite me myself having flaunted the word all over my facebook for shits and giggles, and had all kinds of fun with it myself.
For the last time, I'll give you an oportunity to catch up: When you insisted I was black - cus you thought I was the guy in my signature which is from a movie, I got baffled. Not hurt. Not angry: Baffled.
If you have Batman in your signature, and I begin to insist you are Batman - and really believe it you would be baffled too!
So... if you so absolutely neeeed to find some way to "get to me", I'm advising you, as a favor to you: Try to find some other "weak point" of mine, cus "nigger" ain't it... ::)
-
It did ruffle your feathers, that was quite a lenghty reply. full of thought about what I called you. nigger
If it didnt bother you, you'd simply mellow out with some red stripe and some music from the islands but no...
Uh you need to relax nigger, you obviously have been thinking way more about this then I have given thought to it, nigger. :zoinks:
-
I'm not sure if you are missing the point entirely, by skimming what I write, or if you have actual, clinical mental deficiencies, such as severe OCD.
It's the same like how you insist on writing "shure", despite people all over the world (litterally) telling you it's "sure", you keep writing "shure" and you keep thinking I'm black, and you keep collecting those little stones like a manic.
Have you ever even tried to exercise some mental control? When you feel that little twitch, do you always just "let go" and fly with it? Is this how you're gonna continue your whole life?
-
wigger marley I know your not black. however you shure do act like one.
secondly. when you physically say "sure" I think more along the lines of SU RE, (Sewer) An H takes care of this problem. Shure, looks and just feels right rolling out of the mouth.
and dont worry about my life. let me do that, :hyke:
I play mental exercises all the time. I'm very good at it

Now who's getting "rattled", bitch :hahaha:

I'm not rattled. but maybe I'll let you think that, nigger. :zoinks:
So dude, wanna go out?

Yahoo and Bing are still powerful competition for Google, so they are nowhere near a monopoly.
-
I dislike Bing as much as google. I often use duckduck.com but i believe it is connected to google anyway.
I believe dogpile is meant to be good, but i tend to stick to duckduck or yippy just because i happen to like the way the results are shown.
I think they are all intermingled mixed up sausagemeat though, so might as well just use google anyway. I just don't on principal.
-
I actually like something Google has and that is the iGoogle page. I have been using it for the last year and it has been handy to use it to organise all my links and other info. Only thing is, they are getting rid of it in November next year and they are not replacing it with anything else.
I wonder if there is anything similar anywhere else. Ceilidh made me a links page ages ago but it is out of date. Might have to ask her to make me a new one.

Oh, they're near :D
But yeah, Yahoo struck me as their strongest competitor

When you invent something you have a legitimate argument for being allowed a monopoly for a period of time.
Is Ricky talking again? :zoinks:

They didn't invent the search engine. I don't even know why people went all gung-hoey on it either, because people were wild for Google long before all these "personalized searches" and such also (which I abhor by the way. "Personalization" is just a very clever way of cencoring necesary information from the masses. People are allready focused on consumerism, and by allowing people to simply never-again encounter serious information, they are paving the road for entire generations of dangerous apathy, the likes of which are yet unencountered.)
As far as I can tell, Google's colorful logo was what set it apart, not much else... and I still can't get past how fiiine everyone is with Google owning Youtube :I
It's almost as if people ASSUME it will end there. It won't. We will let them - and Google will buy more and more stuff, primarily media and information related stuff. They will own it all, and we will give it to them, because we are apathetic enough.
My only hope is that shit hits the fan, and that we all end up decapitating CEO's, flooding the streets with rivers of blood!!! >:0

They invented the algorithms that they use that are so effective. Should they just have to hand that over to anyone else because they are successful in using it?
TBH, none of this stuff bothers me. It certainly doesn't rise to the level of OMG THE GOOGLES OWNS THE INTERWEBZ AND EVERYONE MUST NOW DIE :viking:

I never said they should give away what they invented, or that everyone must die. Stop being a dick.
And I'm not saying Google will destroy the world or anything like that.
All I'm saying is: There should be many available alternatives, to allow for sound competition. Competition is what protects the consumer. This is common knowledge, and a foundation for a free society. "LOL U THINK EVYRONE MUZT DIE" no, piss off. I'm saying they have taken step after step unchallenged - steps that haven't been taken by others before. As soon as they took ownership of Youtube, the restrictions were drastically increased. This is fact. Along with all of their unwarranted involvement in the whole wikileaks deal, "LOL HUBBA BUBBA WIKILEAKS IS EVUL :autism: " no, get a clue or fuck off.

I'm pretty sure Google will eventually be replaced by something else. Not that they will disappear but someone will take their place.

Well, that wouldn't necesarily be a good thing, if it simply means someone else buys them and all their assets.
It just means further unification of all information outlet.
This trend is disastrous enough allready. It is very worrying when you begin to trace where your newspapers and news programs come from, even all the way over here.
I'm of course not not singling out Google, as some kind of Evil Lord Company, but they are the best and most glaring house-hold example of monopoly allowed to happen. Even encouraged. It is enfuriating the level of ignorance among the people - and we wonder who's to blame for economic crises? I am hoping for destruction every day :I
We must be careful not to assume everything "follows a cycle". We don't know the future, and when something veers too far away from what we're used to, we should be attentive to it.
Remember when Disney owned half the entertainment industry? Oh wait, they still do :0

I do remember those days.
Hell, AOL used to have a near monopoly on the entire internet here in the US. Because we were all too dumb to know better. Where are they now?

I get it, you never got to feel cool and awesome back in college, and you're desperately making up for it now - but consider this: Disney shows no sign of backing down. Time Warner shows no sign of backing down. Sony corporation stands strong.
"LOL U DONT KNOW ABUT THE NATUREL CYCLE OF BUSNESES!" yeah. Keep that up ::)

Disney just bought Lucasfilm, and I just bought a Sony :viking:

I get snarky when people reply with an "attitude" while seeming to think I wont notice, cus it's like saying "You're stupid" twice in a single sentence. Odeon didn't reply with an attitude, and he got a different treatment from me.
It really isn't rocket science: I notice when people are being "wise". You can respond in a normal manner, you know. It doesn't make you "weak" ::)
Whatever... I said what I had to say about the subject. Let the derailment begin :santa: :bounce: :asthing: :hyke:

I never was a fan of monopoly. :M

My son was about 6 or so when he asked me "can I have a credit card, dad?"
"Sure," I replied, "how do you plan to pay for your card?"
"You have to PAY for it?!?!?"
-
I guess my fuse is a bit shorter than usual lately :I
I adore monopoly-money :I
I also have a thing for those little diamond avatars in the "hunt for the big ruby" or-something board game, the one w the big africa map on it :I

The new fl100 note, (the bird) and the fl50 note I loved the most.

Yes me too :D
I think thats an aspie-thing :D "youre not supposed to play it that way, here let me check the rules" fuck the rules! I wanna play w the map, the toy money, and little diamonds! :M
The holy grail of board games for me was "atlantis"-something. They had it at boy scouts, but they were always too busy with organized fun "lets tie knots!", ever since I always wished it for xmases and birthdays, never saw it again.
It had big pieces, that you basically built a whole island with, then you took it apart little by little :0''

I love maps as well. You saw the maps I made?
They are of course tweaked from allready existing maps, but still with some level of accuracy :D Naturally, they are in no way represntative of anything optimal.

Interestingly, soon after I made this map, I was made aware of the independence declaration (lol) of the Lakotah Republic, which claims are eerily similar to my "Black Hills Republic"

Sorry Sweden :'D more-than-obviously, this map leaves a LOT to be desired.

Ethnolinguistics of Norway. Unity is an illusion, and I was curious how further "sub-nations" would appear. Based on dialects and historical migration and flow. It also leaves many details to be fixed. The main "families" are dark blue to purple shades (trønder), light blue (western), green (agder), yellow-orange (eastern) and brown (saami)

As far as I can remember, yes. That was back in -98 for me :nerdy:
