I'm doing it now, been doing it all week.
Any comments or suggestions?

Yes. Get a quarter pounder tomorrow.
-
What have you been eating so far? What are your favorite vegetables? :orly:

As in Las Vegan?
Or as in taking the lettuce and carrots out of the poor little rabbit's mouth?

Nope. Got exposed to vegetarian stuff from my Seventh Day Adventist relatives as a kid. Not for me.

One of the bosses I had for a few years is a black Seventh Day Adventist. Never worked on a Saturday. All of our overtime was on a Sunday.

Vegan :zombiefuck: Can't help you with that. What are the reasons behind going vegan?

My dad really does not like church in general and SDA in particular because his dad shoved religion down his throat and was otherwise rough on him. I am fortunate in that regard. When I was 7 and left the Methodist church told my mom that I didn't believe in god she was fine with that even though grandma was not happy with it.
-
Vegan :zombiefuck: Can't help you with that. What are the reasons behind going vegan?
Health, environment, nonviolent survival. I was a vegetarian for a long time and got away from my roots a while back. Watch "Get Vegucated" and "Forks over Knives" for good documentaries as to the reasons why one might want to go this route.

Does that mean no milk for the kids?

the reasons im not vegan are milk, steak, ribs, and almost any other meat.
ive no idea what to sugest other than to make sure you get the nutrients that are not as common in vegies as they are in meats... dont know what they are, just that they exist. do some looking up or take supplements
-
My son actually prefers soy milk to cows milk. There is nothing in meat that a human needs that one can't get from veggies. Common misconception.

oh i know that, what i ment is that some vegies that are commonly eaten contain less of some substances than meat contains in general. there is also vegies that contain much more protine than meat does from what i have been told. so it goes both ways... anyways. what i was saying was do your research on nutrients.

Vitamin B12?
-
Never had a problem with it before. Know several current vegans and no problems with them either.
-
Aren't you still a fat bastard regardless of eating veggies? :zoinks:
Have no issues with what people eat once they don't tell me what to eat, and vice versa.
-

You should get it tested. The liver can store several year's worth of vitamin B12, so deficiency is very slow to develop, and the symptoms are vague and very difficult to spot, but it can result in permanent neurological damage if not treated.
-
I do it for a week every month or every other month, actually prefer not eating alot of meat in the summer. But anything longer I lack the willpower for, I totally love a good cut of steak or chicken, cheese, etc.
-

I don't know any vegan sources of B12 other than brewer's yeast and I don't know how much of that you will be able to get a three year old to eat, so maybe you should give him a multivitamin that contains an appropriate amount of B12 just to be safe. If he were drinking cow's milk and eating cheese and yogurt, those would have been sources of Vitamin B12. Another concern is iron. Although there are vegan sources of iron, many of the long term vegans I know became anemic, so you definitely want to keep an eye on that since it happens so gradually. I think that most multivitamins for kids don't have iron. I think there is one kind of chewable Flintstones multivitamin that does contain iron, but I have no idea if it's vegan or not.
-
Humans are omnivores. We need both meat and veg in our lives to be considered "healthy". Some vegans claim humans aren't omnivores at all, but at one time used to be herbivores. Any time they present "evidence" on this, it usually isn't accurate or it's hearsay over the web by some self-appointed "expert". They also completely forget the canines in our teeth. :orly:
The majority of vegans I've met look like zombies or borderline anorexic. Whether it's caused by their diet or not is unknown to me, but it's weird how it seems to be a common trait. Vegetarians however have the ability to become fat, which also boggles my mind. A friend of mine is a strict vegetarian and she's getting quite chubby as of late. Probably the dairy products in work, along with excess carbs.
The reason why I can't really criticise people's eating habits is because I'm not exactly healthy myself. My diet mostly consists of meat and occasional junk food. That along with no exercise helped me become the fat bastard I am today. :zoinks:
-
you are a fatass. changing your diet wont do anything, But good luck anyways. :zoinks:

It's been two weeks, I am probably okay. New diet will involve a lot of nutritional yeast that is fortified with B12, so won't be a problem. To clarify, my kids aren't going vegan, just my wife and I. My son is practically vegan anyway as he hates meat, but loves cheese and we will keep that around as a choice for him. He can and will eat what he wants when it is around.

Broccoli and asparagus

Why does my stating I wont eat meat anymore prompt so many people to defend their own choice to do so? I didn't create a thread saying you are wrong to do so.
-
shut up you fat pig. nobody cares about what you eat thats why

Stop fighting, you fat bastards.

I like bok choy and zucchini. I cook them very fast so the white parts are still white. Asparagus is good but piss smells worse than usual afterwards.

I am interested in what he eats, that's why I asked his favorite vegetables. :M
-
Thats cool. however i think that cumberfaggot is trying to convince us he isnt fat because of a poor diet. he wants to act like its bad genes or something and thats why he's a fatfuck
his bed is probably a gigantic dish of lasagne. and he has a microwave in his bedroom i'm shure.

I really don't think he cares what you think about his weight. :dunno:

At least he doesn't act like that he can't control his overeating, unlike some past members who claimed they "see food and eat it".

It's probably because of the reasons you gave for going vegan along with the documentaries other people could watch. It sounded a little like proselytizing, at least to me, although I completely respect your and your wife's decision to eat vegan. It's absolutely none of my business what you feed your kids either, but I am a little relieved that they aren't going totally vegan.
Vegan :zombiefuck: Can't help you with that. What are the reasons behind going vegan?

It's a pissing off gift, that comes with a meat less diet. Enjoy it. :hyke:
-
I was asked why and I answered. There was no way to respond to that question that would not have had the potential to be misinterpreted as proselyting.
-
you know what bitch? all this going vegan is making you grumpy. just go eat something that isnt a vegtable already
-
I have no problem with it knock you self out. It is not something I think I could do I love dairy way too much. As to the vegan aspect are you living vegan also or just eating that way? One other thing how about honey?
-
I'm not buying any new leather but not tossing out what I have. The no honey thing seems like extremism to me. It's a plant product that was created by insects, I feel no sympathy for insects.
-
I was asked why and I answered. There was no way to respond to that question that would not have had the potential to be misinterpreted as proselyting.
Good point, but you did ask for comments.

I take a vegan approach to arguments. Les likes his to be meaty. :zoinks:

I always felt the honey part was a bit strange. As for the leather, good leather bondage gear is difficult to replace so I find no fault in keeping it till it wears out :dom: :dominatrix: :poopy: :zoinks:

I'm not saying people shouldn't comment. I am inquiring as to the defensive posture this topic seems to generate. :dunno:
That is a more interesting topic of conversation than what I am or am not eating :autism:

Usually how it goes on a message board is people post topics. then other users of the community reply, weather or not you like the replys it isnt up to you. trying to control the discussion? :thumbdn:

No. Asking for comments gets all sorts of comments, including defensive ones about the poster's own diet. Posting links to influence others to become vegans comes across as proselytizing, IMO, even though MLA was answering a question.
-

The cow loved her celery stalk salad today. :M
* she ponders on getting her self declared either holy, or divine, because of all the idle use of her name on this site lately. *

Of course asking for comments can get any comments. Since when does that mean he can't then question the kind of comments he gets? I'm pretty sure he wasnt suggesting no one is ALLOWED to get defensive. He was questioning why they did, when he wasn't forcing it down anyone's throats in te first place
He only posted the links after people started asking about it
So what are you on about?
-
what about quit trying to control the memberships ability to respond any way they choose?
and hyke the cow is holy, blessed be thy name! :santa:

She would be holy if she was born in India. Unfortunately in Netherlands they force cows to deliver mail and put up with abuse.

This cow is very happy at work nowadays.

I know this is complicated, being advanced socializing and all that, but asking questions is not "controlling" except to Meadow and people who live in her head space.

You're right. They were documentaries, not links.

Its not complicated. yet you make it complicated faggot.
you were trying to contol the discussion in this topic. one only has to go back and read its on page 4. asking, "more like telling"
why whatever? who cares. you made a topic. expect answers you do not like, If this bothers you then fuck off. raise you kid instead of spend most of your waking hours on a fucking message board gheying me you loser

Yes, MLA questioned why people were getting defensive and I answered him.

Yes, MLA questioned why people were getting defensive and I answered him.
Your answer was a load of shit though. People got defensive before he posted suggestions of documentaries they could watch (in response to being asked for more info on it). Surely someone as meticulous as you would have realised that?
-
Also Callaway, why do you always feel the need to show people that you've understood they're being sarcastic? Is it because you're desperate to prove that, now and then, you DO actually recognise sarcasm?
There's nothing wrong with being autistic you know :M

Because of the word vegan. Vegans are stereotyped as the preachy militant types hence the negative reputation. Nothing personal towards you I would think, you're being rather moderate about it far as I can tell.
-
The word makes me think 'hippy'
:dunno:
it is a good vibe though, not negative and not something
that i want to defend because i am not a vegan.
I worked in an Italian Restaurant for sixteen years and i did
notice a rise, during that time, of requests for vegetarian and
vegan menu's. It's no big deal really but i do always associate
the word with a kaftan wearing, reafer smokin hippy :zoinks:
-
The majority of vegans are complete cunts about it. I made quite a few of them butthurt before over my videos on youtube. :zoinks:

What's wrong with reefer smoking hippy? ;)

Surely you've heard of Actor's Soup? Back in the early days, broke actors would order a cup of tea, bag on the side. They'd then mix the ketchup at the table with the hot water and crumble in crackers. They'd keep on ordering more hot water for their "tea."

Sounds like the kind of thing you only have to do if you are already resorting to soup kitchens. Leaves more money for shiny stuff.
-
Sounds like you dont know what your talking about. Even if i did that it isnt a problem. SC are a really nice place to get a good meal.
However. I dont eat at soup kitchens anymore. Also baby. who cares? you do

wait for it, :butthurt:

I have a question: As a vegan, what do you normally eat in a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner? I was talking to my mum about this and she is curious.
-
I have a question: As a vegan, what do you normally eat in a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner? I was talking to my mum about this and she is curious.
Using yesterday as an example:
Started the day with Vegan Raw Oatmeal. This is my new favorite thing in the world and consists of thick cut organic oats, vanilla almond milk, Chia seeds and a smashed up banana. Mix these together, leave them in your fridge for 4-8 hours and stir in almond butter and honey in the morning. Delicious.
Lunch was a Dr. Praeger veggie burger on whole wheat with carrot sticks and homemade garlic and roasted red pepper hummus on the side. http://www.drpraegers.com/California-Veggie-Burgers-P127.aspx (http://www.drpraegers.com/California-Veggie-Burgers-P127.aspx)
Dinner was a sweet potato vegan lasagna that I baked over the weekend. Took 3 hours to prep, but amazing stuff. Filled with spinach, mashed sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, peppers, onions, mushrooms and tofu.
Dessert was Mango sorbet.

Of course :) Soy, almond, oat, rice, coconut and hemp are all popular forms of plant milk these days. Almond is better for you than soy, but soy is always the old stand-by option.

I am allergic to both soy milk and rice milk. Maybe I should try almond milk! :apondering:

What happens to you if you have rice or soy milk?
When I first lived alone I didn't have a fridge so I drank soy milk as it kept for longer. I didn't mind the taste of it.

When I drink rice or soy milk I get an itch inside my mouth and Eustachian tubes, it's
not a severe reaction but I'd rather not have it again, so I drink other things. 8)

Eustachian tube itch is one of the worst itches imo because you can't quite scratch it.

I discovered an interesting side effect to my veganism last night. I haven't decided if this is a good or bad thing yet, but my alcohol tolerance has been completely wrecked. I had 2 scotches last night to calm my nerves from all the real estate drama. When I drink, I drink. A scotch night usually consists of 3 or 4 drinks over a period of 3 or 4 hours, and I get pleasantly tipsy and sleep well. Last night I drank 2 scotches in 2 hours and found myself quite unexpectedly trashed. Tore up, room spinning, drunk like I hadn't been since 19 years old. Woke up this morning with a hangover, something I haven't had since I was 20ish. It sucked.
I guess in the long run it should save me money on liquor.

I guess in the long run it should save me money on liquor.
I would wonder whether you are getting enough zinc through your diet because it seems to me that either your liver is making less alcohol dehydrogenase, which contains zinc, or your liver is using more of its stores of alcohol dehydrogenase to metabolize your new vegan diet. Many of the best zinc sources are animal based, like oysters and other seafood for example, but wheat germ and pine nuts are good vegan sources.
Another possibility is your former chronic alcohol consumption or something else damaged your liver and it can no longer handle that degree of alcohol consumption. Although it seems very coincidental to have happened shortly after your vegan dietary change, maybe you should go to the doctor and have some blood drawn to check your liver function if you haven't had that done recently. Have you lost a lot of weight lately, more than one or two pounds a week?

Dude I did some reading because I was curious about this neat veganism thing. Turns out I learned me some science shit. There are-
*Herbivores- which are simple prey animals, and they don't need to be intelligent because they are living slabs of meat. Hence the reason they eat grass and shit. Their brains don't need too much energy to function.
*Carnivores- The rocketship of the animal kingdom. They require a good bit of energy to fuel complex thinking and planning to nab prey, so they eat meat with proteins and loads of calories and other shit in it. Lets their brain run free.
*Omnivores- These animals are able to capitalize on any foodsource, as their system can break down and produce energy from a wide variety of foods. Its been proven that they are only healthy by eating a balance of the two. They have none of the dumb weaknesses of herbivores and all the strengths of carnivores. These animals eat LIKE A FUCKIN BOSS.
Which are humans, eh? I guess if you wish to devolve the human race into stupid helpless prey animals then you will continue promoting this retarded "veganism" It is a widley accepted theory that the only reason humans can think in the first place is that they began to eat meat. :zoinks:

Some say it was the consumption of fish that started making humans more intelligent, due to omega 3 and such.
Chose whatever you want to eat, but at this moment humans are omnivores. Don't particularly care if we were herbivores or not in the past, because evolution does it's work to make creatures like us adapt. Does it mean we can evolve to be herbivores? Entirely possible, but I don't think a few rabid vegans can trigger that over night. We could also evolve into pure carnivores too. Let's see in another 10,000 years or so, when nature takes it's course.

Dude, don't let what other people do in the privacy of their own kitchens bother you so much :)

I don't think a few rabid vegans ...
Why do vegans have to be rabid? :lol1:
-
Well considering the shite a lot of them spout, it's pretty much like they're rabid.

Some can be, but the same can be said about any group.
-
True, but I find Vegans to be one of the more annoying groups.

I'm annoying for a lot of reasons, but I bet if you set up a poll you wouldn't find my veganism in the top 10 :apondering:
-
Didn't realise you represented the collective of annoying vegans.
Weirdly enough I haven't actually met a vegan who wasn't a pious arse about it to some degree. I still live for the hope that one day I'll actually meet a vegan who isn't a complete prick. Have found a few decent vegetarians though.
