From cancer once again. :finger:
Oh, damn. I've been reading his Vanity Fair articles about his cancer battle.
He fought so hard and suffered so much, I am sorry he's gone. :(

It's the cigarettes and the whiskey. :(

Yeah, those things suck. :thumbdn:

In memory of his wittiness and boldness:

Christopher Hitchens confronts audience member on the status of Iranian women (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPIWeRdB5Nc#)
And his intellectual thinking (especially when drunk):

RIP Hitchens. Even on points where I disagreed with him I liked how he presented his arguments. Stephen Fry I know from Bones, had no idea that he is an evangelical atheist.
-
Can any of the admins split this thread starting from when I first mentioned his death?
-
I can move this to another section if you would like.
-
Nah, good enough. Thanks.
-
I first noticed Hitchens back in about 1988. He was an excellent writer. Too bad the cancer got him.

I'm reading one of his books at the moment. God is not Great. Have to use the dictionary every now and then in order to understand some of the words he employs. But personally he came off better as a speaker rather than a writer (although he did have good writing skills and way to capture one's attention to his words).
I'll definitely miss the boldness he displayed in the face of all those who oppose him.

That is one thing I too have great respect for. To not be afraid to tell the truth as you percieve in and be continually "all in" as it were. No matter if the person you argue with is a higher social standing or insistent or seeking to disclaim you on a personal level for your disagreement. To proudly say "No, this is what i believe and too bad if you do not disagree"
-
Great man
Funny too
I really liked god is not great
I posted this on my facebook status: (a couple quotes I saw off dawkins and stephen fry on twitter, plus one I saw off some random christian twat on the daily mail :facepalm2: )
Stephen Fry: "Goodbye, Christopher Hitchens. You were envied, feared, adored, reviled and loved. Never ignored. Never bested. A great and marvellous man"
Richard Dawkins: "Christopher Hitchens, finest orator of our time, fellow horseman, valiant fighter against all tyrants including God"
Commenter on the daily mail article: "No idea who he is, but God rest his soul"

You beat me to the punch Cal, I was about to post a topic with this article.

Hitchens was an unwavering warrior for human rights, freedom of speech and the enlightenment of mankind.
The world is at a loss until someone, who can fill his big shoes, takes up his torch and continues the fight.
Hitchens was :viking: :viking: :viking:
BRAVE!!!
-
He was one of my favorite people living today because he transcended most of the punditry bullshit that inhabits the US right now. He said what he felt without trying to appeal to anyone and he made not ashamed to be an atheist.
-
That article says he was once beaten up in Beirut. Wow, fucking Lebos and Arabs.
-
One of the four horsemen has tragically fallen.
I read the article on yahoo yesterday, and the christian trolls were out in force condemning him to hell. ::)
-
Let me guess. God finally punished his loud mouth with throat cancer and now he's burning in hell?

Something similar to that, so much for a "loving" god. :wanker:
-
Bastards.
-
Now that Hitchens is supposedly in hell, I'm guessing God might now need to resort to annihilation from now on since Hitchens will now be offending both God and Satan big time from hell with his sharp words and intellect. And that would be painful for God to bear eternally.

I was thinking of something similar to post. My thoughts were; "If the christian god is real, then Hithens is up in heaven arguing with god, and god is hopelessly losing the debate". :headbang:
-
So he manages to talk his way through to heaven.
Yep, that's Hitchens.
-
I can't believe it's been almost 3 yeas since we lost this great thinker...
:'(
-
Fucking war mongering shill he turned into.
-
Fucking war mongering shill he turned into.
He will triumph, he who knows when to fight and when not to fight. -Sun Tzu
Hitchens saw war with radical Islam to be unavoidable.
-
He saw sucking up to the powers that be as unavoidable.
-
:bssign:
Hitchens was a suck up to no one.

Sums him up

:wanker: :tinfoil:
Just some shit-talker nobody who wishes he was as great as Hitchens.
-
Somebody who has been endorsed by leading figure on the Nazi Holocaust, Raul Hilberg and by Noam Chomsky.
Hitchens was a one dimensional war mongering shill.

Appeal to authority (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_authority). :wanker:
-
Oh right, but Hitchens was good cause you say so :lol1:
-
Hitchens, unlike these clowns, understood the middle east like few journalists did.
He made arguments for going to war that made sense.

You mean you agree with him?
Oh yeah, he's sure been proven right about going into Iraq :facepalm2:

Going into Iraq wasn't wrong. Where things went wrong was the lack of a plan to deal with the aftermath.
-
So a million people dead and it was the right thing to do? :facepalm2:
Hitchens should have had the balls to admit how wrong he was. If he was so hell bent on the war, perhaps the chimney smoker alcoholic could've got himself in shape and went to Iraq himself?
No, the aftermath has been pretty much the exact intention. It gives the excuse to get back in and stay in.
-
So a million people dead and it was the right thing to do? :facepalm2:
A million people wouldn't've died if the US had been prepared for the insurgency and sectarian fighting.
I, along with several others, saw the insurgency comming before the dust had settled in Iraq.
If I could, see it, then the Bush administration had no excuse not to see it and prepare for it.

They were prepared, it's exactly what they wanted. That's why it was made sure a brain dead moron was in power.

Never attribute to malice, that which is adequately explained by human stupidity.
-
You actually believe those with real power are that stupid? Bush/Obama, they are just puppets. Israeli Lobbyists have the say in America's foreign policy for the most part.
-
How time flies.
It's almost been 3 years since we lost the Hitchmeister to cancer. :-\
-
Its fucking awful. He had a lot more brilliance to grace us with. We are left with what we have of him though, and have to content with that.
-
I find this interesting actually he came across a bit arrogant but that could just be me...I am not one to take up offense for it's as if one expects the other whom brought the offense to be poisoned by the poison you metaphorically drink...It's a trap to be offended, to be upset yes but to hang onto being that way is poison (I know from first hand experience) Personally (and painfully) I've relized what makes human kind so much like God's creation is their ability to be rational and to think, to reason...
I find humans fascinating complex and wonderful all by the same token...
In my experience it isn't by happen stance that we are all so wonderfully broken, and yet so wonderfully kind...It takes a divine being to create folks so varied and so unique in my opinion...and I wouldn't take away anyone's right to believe the way they see fit, I'd actually defend it...
In the bible it says 'if at all possible be a peace with all men' meaning character what one does when no one is watching...I have found strength in my faith, and make no bones about where I stand as far as being a Christian but I've been told even by those here that I am unlike any Christian they have ever come across...
That is how it should be, we should be individuals and unique and ourselves and respect human life and views...I respectfully agree to disagree but that dose not mean I'm going to hold a freaking grudge hey let's go get some lunch :asthing:
I have a feeling having lunch with some of you all here would rock...but that's because God made auties cool beans :heisenberg:
-

I think you'd be surprised to know that Christopher Hitchens was actually well respected by many christian leaders, especially the ones who debated against him. One of them said "If it wasn't for the fact that Christopher is an atheist, he'd make a good Puritan". Christopher was driven by a very strong internal sense of morality.
