what are your customs, limits?
i have loaned out upto 1000 krones (180usd), but only when i know _the exact time_ ill get it back, and that it is within few days (so not to drift into the realm of forgetfulness)
otherwise, ill loan out hundreds of krones, and be patient about being paid back.
anything below 50 krones (about 10 bucks) i consider a gift, and wont demand back.
a friend of mine once wanted 15 krones back, that i borrowed from him once. this guy always does shit like that tho, i saw a post-it-note once, where he wrote up 3 krones, someone owed him (half a dollar).
when he asked for the 15 krones, i simply told him to fuck off. had it been 150 krones, i woulda gladly paid back :M
i REALLY dislike borrowing money myself, but for that i go by the same rules. i wont borrow more than 1000 krones, and only if i _know_ i can pay it back swiftly.
my upper limit is, lets say 200 dollars.
my lower is 10-20 (depending on mood. and it goes both ways. im not paying back a loan below 10 bucks :D)
-
Mostly no more than I would just give them outright as getting it back is always kinda iffy. The most I have ever had out though was just about $5000 to my brother though not money but him using my credit accounts at supply houses. Most people would be a few hundred though
-
I don't. Not more than 10$. But I have done random nice things. Last year I bought my friend an alternator. He really really needed it.

aw thats also good :D
-
^Yeah that is a nice thing to do.
I haven't lent money as such but recently I drove my friend to appointments and things when she couldn't drive herself. She repaid me by buying me nice lunches and she also bought me a present.
I gave my parents over $30 000 (can't remember the exact amount, I am shit when it comes to money) to pay off their house when I sold my flat. Now that I am living with them I am able to save money so it is like they are paying me back in a way.

damn thats quite a lot of money :I
im not a slave of principle, when it comes to money. if i loan away a sizeable chunk (im on welfare myself :D) my main concern is to be re-paid in time for me not to starve while waiting :D
if i have enough ill let more slip.
last was 450 krones i borrowed from my friend alex, and i repaid him w a 500 bill. he got very distraught by it, he didnt want the "responsability" of now owing me 50 in return, despite me telling him to relax, "consider it a gift! buy me a beer sometime!" we were even going to his place, and he was offering pizza, so i told him to consider the surplus 50 pizza-money, but he refused, and went to a store to break the bill and stuff :I
-
I keep it simple really, if i got it - you can have it!
I seem to acquire cars, so mostly i find i lend out cars, or
i do have a Mercedes Sprinter van which i lend out a lot
too.
I rarely have heaps of cash. I used to earn a fair bit when
i was working, and am still owed money from then.
I will give mates a bed for the night, or a week or so.
I live day to day, week to week, so i tend to use up all
my money, but if i got some, yeah sure, i would lend it
out.
-
Easy: I don't have money, so I don't lend it.
I don't borrow it because I can't afford to be in debt.
My friends and I will pay for small things like coffee for each other and not worry about keeping score.
-
I don't lend because I would never get it back. Can't afford the social energy it would take to track people down and nag them.
-
I usually don't lend or borrow. Will swap buying meals occasionally with a specific friend.
Have given my sister money around the winter holidays and her birthday so that she can enjoy buying some extra groceries.
-
Neither a borrower nor a lender be, for loan oft loses both itself and friend.
-
When it comes to friends i do borrow money but its rarely more than 20 cad. Gluey used to keep a tab for me if i ever forgot my moneys and than i would pay her back later. My friend maciej i will get to buy me junk food when he cones over and pay him when he gets to my place. I will also buy pizza for him and junk food. We keep track sometimes but when someone buys twice in a row no one really cares. Its just to make sure someone dosnt buy all the time
-
I don't, usually. Not beyond lunch money or similar, but then I would prefer the person to buy me lunch at some point instead.
-
I don't like to lend, it leads to disappointment, but it really depends on the situation. I've worked for people in the past that spotted something on Ebay but didn't have an account, and I remember charging a few thousand on my credit card in the span of a few minutes. But he also had a 14 room house, Versace dinnerware, and a Christmas tree decorated in over $25,000 worth of Radko ornaments, so it was basically a no-risk situation.
I'll give normally if I don't care about or need it back.
Except for the truck, I normally won't lend a vehicle unless hell freezes over.
-
It's never come up, so not sure. Once had a friend and she told me it was nice to have a friend who never asked for money.
-
I almost never borrow; I think there's been once or twice that I have when I knew I'd have money the next day (I am recalling once when I wanted to get something from a vending machine and was starvng, and I think once since then but can't for the life of me remember why). Bought something off of someone's amazon account recently because he had free shipping and wrote him a check right then and there.
Lending... I try not to do in general, and never ever do if I can't afford to not have the money back.

I have a friend that uses my ebay/paypal account all the time because he doesnt have a credit card, but he pays me cash right then. I dont see it as an issue.
-
The only people I've ever borrowed from is my parents, and then I always paid them back.
My dad really frowned on borrowing anything, I remember he'd rather spend a small fortune on a specialty tool for a job rather than to borrow or rent it (although knowing him that could have been just an excuse to buy more tools ;) ).

I don't like borrowing either and have the same type of attitude your father had with the tools. With that and my flea market activities I have amassed a huge selection and variety of them and loan them out a lot. My wife has commented that I am like one of those tool lending libraries. Most of the time it works out well

Giving ANYONE $30,000 is an outstanding act of generosity, glad you are now saving money. :)

I saw this thread in the who's online list and didn't read it too closely
I thought it was "who moans loudest among your friends". I am disappoint.

hey, ive never been a topic-nazi, so, go ahead, share your stories :D

Hailey moans sometimes, but it is more like whimpering and that is hot ... but Jeff was the worst. He would scream my name and stuff. He knew I liked it so he did it a lot but he was way over the top with it and it just seemed silly.

Now THAT is the kind of altruism that makes this place great!

Oh and I brielfy dated a boy named Derek this year that moaned like a girl. I think he was on female hormones. It was really not hot, it was like being with a girl. I dont want to make women moan >:(

I did it so my stepdad could retire (he was doing lawnmowing for a lot of people and it was taking its toll physically on him) and so my parents wouldn't have to worry about house repayments any more. I think it was a good idea as they have been pretty happy and have been able to save up for some holidays away since then.

i always giggle to the idea of men moaning emotionally, especially if its loud :D
"OUUAAAAA!!!"
its much much more delicious when chicks do it :I
i once convinced a guy to moan loudly to his own masturbation, to get back at a certain "miss-fuckaloud" as he called her, a bitter love affair, where a girl he wanted invited him to move in w her and her friends, only to have her getting fucked hard and loud in the next room by some long haired satan-rocker :D

You think it is silly cause you a straight man ! :M I am a straight woman so I think it is sexy when men moan :M .... just not in silly ways :D
and that shit is just the worst. :(
Years and years ago I had a crush on a boy, and he kissed me once. It was not "goodnight" it was like a 5 minute kiss where if he was chewing bubblegum I would have swallowed it
anyway, I was very very shy, and had not started to be so forward with men. Nothing ever came of it I'm guessing because I didnt act interested, as I never did back then.
and like 2 weeks later he invites me to a small gathering at his house, and I though "wow maybe I can get another shot"
WRONG
Instead, i sat there and watched him make out with Ruthie all night long. I havent talked to Ruthie since.
*single tear*

ive luckily never had to experience that myself
probably cus i was never invited many places much :D
im trying to remember... ive wanted chicks and not gotten them, they seem to have just faded out of my conciousness, or ive supressed the memories :D
closest i got was merely wanting to bang a chick, and getting closer and closer to the goal one night, drunk, afterparty, then she ended up getting smooched AND fondled - basically on top of me. i had to move out of the way :I
-
Eris, that sucks. It is pretty bad to have a crush on someone and not know what to do about it. I have experienced that.
Rude of him to invite you along to watch him be with someone else.

aww, that shit it the worst :(
and I have pined, for months, over silly boys.
The worst I think was Jake .... cause I had him ...kinda
I liked him for like 6 months, always patiently just kinda worshipping him from afar. He was in my "clique" so I hung out with him like everyday
so on one fourth of july weekend party thing, we hookup. And "start dating". Well like a week later he tells me ... that
He kinda likes me but really really likes my friend Missy so he doesnt think he should date me.
,,,,
,,,
,,
Well, Missy rejected him and I fucked his brother out of spite.

Yeah, I know it doesnt seem like it now but when I was younger i was really shy around guys
and I dont think he invited me over just for that, I guess he thought i wasnt interested and making out with her just kinda happened.

I don't usually loan money to people but if someone owes me money, I never loan to them ever again until they pay me back. I do not loan money out to people who are always broke because it's very unlikely they will pay me back.
The most we had given was $600 to my sister in law and she couldn't pay us back because it turned out the car she got needed more work so she spent all her tax money on her car getting it fixed. She can't pay us back because she is too poor.
I do not like to loan out money unless it's family and well sister in law is out of the question. I never borrow money either. I hate owing money is why. Only time I will borrow is if I wanted to buy something so I borrow and buy it and then I pay the person back right away when I can. I already had the money but I had no way to spend it so borrowing was no different because I have the money, I just have to give it back is all. But that has never happened yet.

ill much rather lend than loan, precisely cus i dislike owing people money.
as a weed smoker, ive seen many people "borrow" weed, which is absolutely retarded. its like when seinfeld talks about restaurant bills: when your hungry, your willing to pay anything for good food. when your full, you are very reluctant to part with your money.
when theyre broke, and really desire some smoke, theyll nag and beg to borrow a few lumps, but then, the next time they go back for more, they have to pay up twice
-
My brother used to borrow money from me every single month. It was always something like 50$ - 100$ and he WOULD pay me back on time it just kinda pissed me off that it was every single month.
This was years ago, and finally it all came to a head. He wanted to borrow my car insurance money and I flat out said NO. He tried to argue that he would pay it back before it was due, blah blah. He even had our mom call saying "that isnt right !!! he will pay you back before the bill is due"
That's not the fucking point, mom ::) Why should I "have" to loan him my money that is to pay for my car insurance? And he is 10 years older than me, it's pathetic he comes to his little sister EVERYSINGLEMONTH for money
He is basically an asshole in many ways. We dont really get along too well anymore...

Lend is a verb, and loan is a noun or a verb, but lend is never a noun. :M

I have never heard of a retro check (cheque :P )
No, when I bought it, I was working full-time and had enough for a good deposit and the flats were cheap and had just been renovated. I think I lived there for about two and a half years. While I was there I repainted it (renovators had painted it a horrible pink/peach colour) and made a garden out the back (it was a ground floor flat with a big patch of sand when I moved in). It was a time of big inflation in the housing market so when I sold the flat I made a fair bit of money on it.

Oh, sweet. =)
I hadn't realized you'd worked full time, Ren, else I'd forgotten.
-
Ren handles money a LOT better than I do. I've never even considered buying a place,
so I'm impressed by anyone who plans well enough to buy a place and then sell it for a
healthy profit. I may have had opportunities over the years that I completely
overlooked. I just drift along doing whatever is easiest. :tard:
-
I have always tried to never be mean-spirited. If i have no money,
i try to always make time to listen to people and their problems. I find
i can be good at solving problems other than my own.
Money isn't always 'everything'.

It is if you're homeless and starving- or always on the brink of being so.
If all your basic needs are met and look to be met in the future as well, money stops mattering so much.
-
If it's family, I prefer to give them the money rather than lend it to them and the amount would depend on what it is they need.
If it was a friend, then the amount I would be willing to give or lend would depend on the friend and the situation.

I think I was lucky. A lot of flats in the area were being renovated and I went and had a look then just impulsively decided I had to buy one. So I signed up and got a broker who was very understanding (I think she could tell I was a bit "different" and slow with things) and organised the home loan and all the horrible stuff that comes with it (huge amounts of paperwork and lots of signing of stuff). I would have stuffed it up if it hadn't been for her.
As for the rise in prices of places, I was just lucky. If I hadn't had trouble with mental illness, I would probably still be living in the flat now. I loved that place. Living alone rules imo. My parents were the ones who took control when my place was selling, they found the agent to do it and everything. I can't even remember what happened, really. That was a hazy time of my life.
-
I don't loan money or let people borrow anything. Bad past experiences!
