How do you keep cockroaches the fuck away from your stuff? (I live in an apartment)
How do you make these annoying cold sores in my mouth go away? (Does it have anything to do with my dental hygiene?)
-
1. Fucking clean up after yourself.
2. Brush your teeth you lazy cunt.
-
1.) Report the roaches to the landlord or building superintendent, so s/he can fumigate the building.
2.) Are these the sores you are talking about? :nerd!:

Cockroaches, if your apartment is clean, but that of your neighbours isn't, you may have to inform your landlord, or pest control or something like that.
Cold sores? Often a sign or your general health not being 100%.
Some over the counter anti-viral ointments may help.
Eating better, and, according to some, taking L-Lysine supplements can help you prevent having cold sores.

1) Stop letting homeless dudes sleep in your living room
2) Stop blowing homeless dudes
-
Why, how helpful of you... Schleed! :orly:
1. I don't bathe in mud.
2. I brush my teeth everyday.
-
Stop blowing homeless dudes
That helps to prevent cock roaches?

I used to get horrid cold sores on my ears :)
Thankfully I don't think I've ever seen a cockroach.

Probably, as they might no longer have a reason to hang around messing things up in his house, but that particular piece of advice was aimed at the cold sores.

I get the Nazi Cockroaches:

smoke the roaches, will take care of the cold sores

At least you won't really care about them nearly as much.

I used to live in an apartment complex in Phoenix, and cockroaches were a constant problem.
You have to keep absolutely ALL food in your house sealed at all times.
Call the apartment manager and have them fumigate your apartment.
This will only drive out the cockroaches temporarily, they will go to neighboring apartments.
As soon as those neighboring apartments get fumigated, the cockroaches will go looking for a new home.
I'f you forgot to keep all your food sealed, the cockroaches will return to your place.
It's a constant battle, and in the long term, the roaches win.

They are gross. For some reason I've never come across them, even when working on old houses.
-
cold sores IN your mouth? aren't cold sores outside your mouth? on your lip?
I get those, although not for quite a while
it means you are unhealthy

It's not so much as old houses it's dirty houses and not always that they hitchhike from place to place in bags and boxes and are very difficult to get rid of. So you could get a box from a not so clean place that could have some or their eggs in it. I am very careful when I get stuff that I am going to sell from questionable places, I check it thoroughly and sometime spray it just in case. Powdered boric acid kills and repels them as well as ants and fleas sprinkle it about in cracks behind cabinets and under the fridge and such. It's also about as toxic as table salt to people so it's pretty safe

That's why I posted the link to a Wikipedia entry about canker sores. :orly:

Cold sores (herpes zoster) can spread to other places, also to the gums.
One of the worst places it can spread to is the eye.
Very important to stay away from babies when having a cold sore too, or wear protective mask. On a new-born the infection can become very large, and dangerous.

Watch the salty, high acid foods which will make them hurt worse, certain foods will cause them for me. They can be a sign of a food allergy, so you might want to keep tabs on when they occur and what you've ate beforehand.
Used to get them on my tongue when I ate walnuts, painful, but never stopped me from eating them until one day they covered my tongue, the roof of my mouth and my throat.

Most of the properties I buy come from auction, and most of them are either repossesions or houses where an old person has died and the executer of the will has put the house into auction.
Most of them are totally filthy when I got to them. I've even had one that lay boarded up for over a decade.
I hear Americans talking about cockroaches a lot, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone from Scotland mention having them. I can only assume we don't have as big a problem with them. They seem to be rare.
Mice on the other hand...

actually... i believe cold sores are caused by a strain of the herpes virus.... just saying. canker sores are on the inside of your mouth. dont know what causes them but they are not contagious unlike the first. as far as getting rid of the second. i usually just swill mouth wash for a day or two and it clears right up.
-
Mouthwash is helpful because it will kill any bacteria that might be irritating it.
Check the ingredients on your toothpaste. Most toothpastes contain sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate, both of which don't cause canker sores but can irritate them, so try to fiind one without that to use when you have cold sores. Usually the baking soda toothpastes don't have those ingredients.
Avoid acidic foods touching your canker sore. Rinse immediately after eating.
I really don't know if the lysine helps, but it does help with cold sores.
It can't hurt to take some things to boost your immune system - vitamin C, olive leaf, echinacea.

Cockroaches are a rare sight over here. Never seen one in my life.
Same for rats in any house I've been in, must be the more stricter building regulations here that helps keep them out or something.

Cochroaches like warm conditions. The only places you wll likely find them in Britain is hospitals and restaurants and not the big bastards you see here, nor the proliferation.
-
Never seen a rat in a house, but have had problems with mice in properties in both Scotland and NI.
The house I live in now was infested with mice when my cousin bought it, although it was practically derelect at the time.

QFT :plus: It is a running battle. The best you can do is keep things very clean and avoid piling paper of any kind anywhere. They like the glue in books and warm moist places. There is somekind of abrasive powder that is non toxic that you can buy. It wears holes in the exoskeleton of the roach. The name of it escapes me atm. Most roaches have developed immunity to poisons.
As for the cold sores in the mouth. A dentist may make a good recommendation. I had them bad as a teenager and it hurt to eat.
-
OOPS, just noticed Parts mentioned Boric Acid. Good stuff, spread it where you see them run or congregate.

Cockroaches thrive in hot climates, that's why they were such a problem in Phoenix and when I was stationed in 29 Palms, both in the desert.
Cockroaches are a lot more rare out here on the coast where it is a lot cooler. Ants on the other hand, are a huge problem.
When I was in elementary school, the ants always targeted the lunches we brought to school. On average, 1 kids lunch got eaten by ants every week. It happened to me 4 or 5 times.
-
I;ve seen a few ant infestations. I remember my gran had one years ago.
-
My apartment building is very well maintained, and evidently has regular visits from an exterminator.
I've never seen even one cockroach in the building, not even in the midst of all my hoarded paper.
*fires up the shredder to get rid of the damned paper* :headbang2:
-
and when I was stationed in 29 Palms...
That place can SUCK MY HAIRY ASSHOLE.

never seen a cockroach in my life.... but i have stepped on a gerbil who got out of his cage in the middle of the night when waking up for a pee... lucky for me it bit me and ran away before i could put full weight on it. i cryed... i was only 5

One of my guinea pigs once bit me, just enough to shave the skin a bit. I was due for that tetanus shot anyway!

German Shepard/Husky... didn't fit the name at all... blueberry ate the gerbil. never thought of her as an innocent puppy after that.

But you might get sand in it. Who wants sand in their ass?? :dunno:
-
I've never seen a cockroach in my life too. Glad to.. nasty creatures they appear to be.
-
There seems to be a slight roach problem in my house. I don't even think the previous owners bothered with pest control (or the tenants didn't tell the agent about it). There's also a tavern over the fence so that's where they might come from. Tried that 6 month surface spray stuff and the smell gave me a headache. Might have to use roach bombs while on a weekend away or something.
-
Cockroaches are the official pet of any warm water port. They will come in from the neighbors, through the drain pipes, etc. As someone said, boric powder mixed with something like peanut butter will kill them. If you have it in your local stores, Bengal Roach Spray seems to be the best of the spray insecticiedes.
I loved the roach motels, they checked in, but they didn't check out. So putting something enticing on an upside down piece of duct tape might work too. But duct tape is a bitch to work with sticky side up.
Moving won't be a solution since the egg capsules can be carried to the new place and the neighbors there may already have them.
Best of luck.

Thanks. My apartment had some of those Combat things laying around. I should get a roach motel or something. My desk is a roach hotel. I don't usually see but a few per day. I usually do not have food contaminated by them since I try to keep everything in the fridge.
-
Black Flag used to make the Roach Motels, but I haven't seen any on the grocery shelves for ages.
-
I remember Roach Motels. I'm guessing the roaches outnumbered them. Everyone used Roach Motels
till there were none left in the world. I have seen a single insect, months ago, in my hall ... just before
I killed it, I got a close enough look to be 95% sure it was a roach. However, I've not seen another,
and a friend of mine mentioned that she occasionally gets one in her house from inside a paper bag,
and that if she kills it immediately there are no more. That seems to have been the case for us both. :orly:
