Just been reading about this man who ran a marathon dressed as a snail for charity and then got sacked for not raising enough money!

Action for Kids fundraiser hoped to raise at least £100,000 for the charity but received about £20,000.
The 49-year-old former footballer from Essex, who has raised more than £5m for charity over the years, said he was "shocked" by the decision.
He was accompanied around the course by people dressed as other characters from the Magic Roundabout including Florence, Dylan and Zebedee.
He suffered nosebleeds and vomiting as he crawled the course at the pace of a mile a day.
The fundraiser said: "The trustees made their decision just 11 days after I'd finished the marathon."
Action for Kids spokesperson said "Whilst his involvement in the marathon significantly raised our profile it did not result in any increased funding,
and in fact, cost the charity several thousand pounds."

I think they are being very mean. On the other hand this man was a paid employee of the charity
(something about being paid by a charity seems wrong to me) and i guess if he didn't perform
as his contract they have the right to get rid!

What cunts. :finger:
-
Yeah fuck them.

Why? Isn't the money supposed to go to kids, not the people who fired him
Anyway, while I agree it is fucked up that he got fired and I feel for the guy, it is kinda misleading to say he was fired for not raising enough money - wasn't he fired for LOSING them money because the costume cost more than he made?
-
Yeah i agree. Tosser's. I wouldn't want to work for them again.
Poor bloke must have really struggled in that outfit
meh, i would go in fancy dress but as a 'marathon runner' >:D

i thought about that, but i just thought - no way - how could a snail costume cost twenty grand?
-
hmm yeah that seems a lot lol
I dunno - I just read that somewhere else but can't remember where now as it wasn't today
-
i could have knocked him up a lovely snail outfit for a tenner >:D

Some of the money would go to the kids, but since he was being paid a salary by the charity, it's reasonable to assume the people who fired him are being paid salaries as well.

I don't like Action for Children as a charity.
Very over dramatic in a kind of "Think of the children!!!" kind of way.
I just think the way they act is idiotic and OTT , ever since that Autism advert they did years ago.
Just IMO though.

Some charity. According to a charity website I found, apparently they lend power wheelchairs to children as well as fix them when they break, but they "encourage" families of these children to raise funds to cover the cost. They also have a replica house to teach children to do chores and do other things like count change to gain independence.

I forgot to mention , they're kinda sleazy too.
I'm sure they do SOME good , but I don't think of them as a particularly nice charity personally.

I would have thought you'd think that was a good thing?
I don't know anything abouut them tbh. What was that autism ad like squiddy?
-
So it's like a British Autism Speaks?

Typical Autspeaks nonsense if I'm honest. :P
So it's like a British Autism Speaks?
Not quite they don't focus solely on Autism , they are however just as melodramatic as Autspeaks.
Plus Autism Speaks is over here , they're just to miniscule to do anything

I bet Bob Hope's issues do stem from that. :zoinks:

What was with the 11 days. Did they wait till his knees healed? Making sure they could not be held liable for long lasting damage?

I can't imagine he had fully recovered from crawling 26 miles in just 11 days, so I don't know.
He said that he didn't have enough time to follow up with everyone he planned to ask for money because they fired him just 11 days after the event.

Hmmm sounds like they missed out. They sound dodgy now after reading about them.
I wonder what Snailee's salary was?

Looks they were looking for an excuse to get rid of him, not even waiting till he got all the money he went for with his crawl.
