Visited countries: Sweden (doh), Norway, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Spain.

Short cruising to Finland, car drive over the Norwegian border, Charter to gran Canaria with my mom.
Sailed to Germany via Denmark.

Have not been outside this country in 10 years.

A mildly-retarded-ex-addict-guy at work wanted to bathe his bunny. The bunny got scared and started hyperventilating, so the guy thought it was sick and decided to en it's misery by putting it in a bag and swinging it into a brick wall.

norwegian border explorers had fun skipping in and out of the russian border. the little joke we people sometimes do "sweden! finland! norway! sweden! finland! norway!"
however, the russians dont find anything funny at all, especially not joking around with demarcated borders that people have died for, and so forth

Arrest and Fine :D

speaking of borders, theres these students who regularily move the border markers around jemtland and herjedalen, to make the regions part of norway again :] :viking:

I don't think many people have died for the Russo-Norwegian border, though. Probably more Swedes and Finns died for the Norwegian-Swedish border in the north, before it was finally established.

Do you have notifications turned on for specific topics you were interested in but you are no longer interested in, or do you mean that these topics show up as unread topics and you want to mark as read just the ones you're no longer interested in?

In a Newtonian universe where laws of physics always apply, how can man have free will ?

Kant wrote an entire book about this. Anyone have the answer ?
Title: Re: Ask anything
Post by: TheoK on March 14, 2011, 05:05:51 AM
You don't have a free will. You have an individual will, but it's 100% determined by the laws of physics.
Title: Re: Ask anything
Post by: eris on March 14, 2011, 05:40:26 AM
yes that's that tricky part

If things can be "predicted", and life is really nothing more than a chess game, then where is the freedom ?

Kant and Schopenhauer never agree  :M

Title: Re: Ask anything
Post by: TheoK on March 14, 2011, 05:49:23 AM
Schopenhauer never said that the will was free, he just said that the will was the only existing thing in the universe and that everything in the universe is merely the will's self-delusions.

I tend to think everything is an illusion

I am referring to Kants side of the argument. The supreme moralist himself. I'm not a big fan of Kant, as I am not exactly a "moralist"

In a way everything is an illusion. It's even scientifically proven. From discoveries made by testing Heisenberg's uncertainty constant, h, it turned out that it seems that matter, energy etc have no properties at all when not observed. Things get properties by being observed, but they don't have properties per se.  :zombiefuck:

h is Planck's constant, not Heisenberg's constant.

Ooops, sorry.

It's Planck's constant, but Heisenberg used it in his formulas, so I misinterpreted what it stood for.  :facepalm2:

I had some gobshite try to argue a more pretentious version of "I think, therefore I am". Basically was that if he thought something was true, it *was* factually true and it can not be contested, along with people having free will etc. Subjectivity simply didn't exist, nothing conflicted. He also claimed that irrationality does can not exist, only appears irrational if you're not intelligent enough to deciper it etc. etc. etc.

Despite hours of us spewing shit and the odd "you're a retard" towards me, he pulled the QED bullshit and fucked off. If anything he only proved that he had some weird god-complex and in general a complete cunt. It was fun, though. :zoinks:

Was this the duck penis you saw?

What is what?

And remember....somewhere in the world THIS probably is a delicacy.

The one on the top right is a male Mallard's penis and the one on the bottom left is a female Mallard's vagina.

Here's the caption for the picture:

This image shows the genitals of the mallard — female vagina on the left, male phallus on the right — with the size bar at the top representing 2 centimeters. An escalating sexual arms race between male and female mallards has resulted in increasingly longer phalluses and ever more elaborate vaginas.

The article discusses how female waterfowl developed more complicated vaginas to ensure that the males that fathered their offspring were the ones the females wanted, as opposed to waterfowl rapists.  The male waterfowl that rape females evolved longer penes.
