I don't think he hates them all, tho.

I do have one actually.
The story and pic's are in my ask away thread.

You're right....he doesn't hate them all, but he's usually griping on how they all look the same or how they're just glorified VW beetles etc, etc. when he has the opportunity.....I think it's funny, actually  :zoinks:

I wants one, too. /goes to read your ask away thread

Wasn't there an episode where he is driving a 911 with a huge grin on his face, shouting how brutal the car is? How it will happily kill you? have to look it up.

They are remarkable machines. Nothing else quite like them.
Been hooked on them since driving a 993 cabriolet my dad once had.

Pretty good deals on used 996's & 997's.

Cars cost a lot less in the US. A Jag like mine is relatively cheap there.

They cost even more in Finland, though.

Maybe ugly in some ways...but once I watched the review, midway through I had a stupid grin...I like it.

I looked up the stats...412Kw would make me grin even more if I was driving it.

Yes, but as Jeremy said Hammond is quite mad. ;)

I'd drive either of those proudly. That Bathurst is badass. Love the supercharger whine.
I'd still keep my 911 though.

Mine makes the noise of the ute, and once you drive one, it is quite addictive to feel that when you take off.

You mean gimmicky, so it appeals to the masses and makes a lot of money? How unscrupulous of them.

I wonder what episodes you have seen to form that opinion?  Maybe you should give it a go at watching a bit more of it  -  it's a very successful show with mass appeal.  I think it is funny as fook.

I know a lot of the humour is very dry and sarcastic.  Sarcasm, is the lowest form of wit - so they say.  I live in longbridge,  proud builders of some of the worlds worst motor cars.  I used to know lots of people who worked on the track - they used to plug holes with bubble gum,  use blue tack instead of filler -  churning out the very poorest built cars!!  Sarcasm, therefore, really is the only form of wit.

Clarkson and his gang could deliver an entertaining show even if it wasn't about motor cars!  But here is the main reason for it's success -  it does what it says on the can - it gives us the low down on cars, all types of cars, in a very entertaining way.  It doesn't just deliver the 'tech' stuff which is maybe what a lot of 'tech minded' folks want.  I want to see the hilarious antics they
get upto.

I am gonna dig up some of the best ones -  i reckon you will find them funny ;D

That car will be connected with the plural images from now on for me.  :zombiefuck:

Just like I can not see a Fiat Croma without thinking about meat in a frying pan. Croma is a brand for frying margarine.

The mental image of the Ascari is a lot more damaging though.

Looked him up on youtube. Great guitarist but some of the songs were less than convincing. Jezza's right in saying that the title of his CD "I Started Out with Nothin and I Still Got Most of It Left" is one of the best ever, though.

No i don't reckon he is as skilled as he would like us to believe.  He does make up for that by being
very funny.

If i had to chose which one to go on a long drive with it would be the hamster (after the stig of course)
but if i had to be stuck in a lift with one it would be Clarkson just for entertainment value :zoinks:

well...apart from that crash he had!  lol   yeah
if i had my kid with me i would pick capt slow

clarkson would be a handful i think and would take the piss every time i asked to stop for the loo! :zoinks:

Don't know... I have a suspicion that Clarkson is the better one of the two.

well it's true i haven't heard of him involved in any 'incidents' and no one has
complained about him driving?  have they?

i am off to dig up some dirt on clarkson :zoinks:

I think it would be fun to spend a day with James May. Have you seen James May's Toy Stories or James May's Big Ideas? I thought both were great. I haven't seen Man Lab yet.

I've seen some of it but as with the others, I think he is funnier to watch in Top Gear. Clarkson takes up a lot of space, tho.

I have now returned with some evidence,   but don't get me wrong -  i love the three of them, and The Stig.  They all play their part.

Evidence

Why wouldn't i pick our jezza to go on a long car journey
I've seen some of it but as with the others, I think he is funnier to watch in Top Gear. Clarkson takes up a lot of space, tho.

yes he takes up a hell of a lot of space with his enormous head.  that huge swede of his might block out
some stunning views of the passing scenery,   (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a73/missteresabrown/jokes%202/722766723_s.gif?t=1302268227) and of course any passenger of his would have 'reduced light' in the vehicle... not good :zoinks:
he is also very dominant and quite bossy and i can't imagine him being too pleased if i want to stop to  go to the toilet
and then...we come to his driving.....
....(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a73/missteresabrown/jokes%202/Clarkson_KiaRio.gif?t=1302268227)
and then....
....the reliant robin episode
 (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a73/missteresabrown/jokes%202/Reliant1.gif?t=1302268227)

moving on

Captain Slow
well what can i say...if i was with my child or my mother - yes,  that would be assuming of course that i was also
in no hurry whatsoever, and my arrival time of the following week would be ok
(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a73/missteresabrown/jokes%202/mayfail2.gif?t=1302268227)
...just look at May,  :green:

therefore the only one left
The Hamster

but why the hamster??
the hamster dance of course :nerd!:

I rest my case

Some of my favourite TG quotes

Clarkson

"The only person to look good in the back of a four seater convertable was Hitler"

"This being a new series of top gear. we thought we try out a new presenter, Ok.
He's called James May and on the evidence of what we're about to see, he is a blithering idiot."

"I hate car journeys, they're so mind crushingly boring, but after 6 hrs and 330 miles in the Jag,
i was relaxed, no matter what the irritation."

"as something to live with every day, I'd rather have bird flu."  re corvette z06

"It’s like Gerard Depardieu – slightly swollen middle, broken nose but there are hidden talents.
And it’s not just me who likes it.
Everybody here likes it.
And the people who like it most of all, are the family of Albanians, that I inadvertadly brought back into Britain in each of the wheel arches.
They’ve written to me to say that it will always hold a special place in their heart.”   on the citroen berlingo

“It looks like an ugly snake that swallowed a wardrobe”.  on the toyota yaris

"You can also buy it as a Diesel, if you're the type of person who thinks the Mona Lisa should have a Mustache."

May
"It's like a supermodel smoking a pipe, its just wrong''  referring to diesel convertibles

"Oh  Cock"  then later  "permission to say cock"

Hamster
"The Mercedes G Wagen AMG 55. It's hilarious.
It's a bit like those stories you hear about a 21 year old lap dancer marrying an 86 year old billionaire.
It doesn't sound natural but lets face it, they're both gonna have a great time. "

"It's got two knobs! Well....three if you include the one who bought it!"
in response to May's Fiat Panda

"Understeer is when you're going along and you turn a corner, the car goes straight on hits a tree ...and you die.
Now oversteer is when you come to a corner, the back comes round - you hit a tree..... and you die.
The thing to remember is that Oversteer is best because then you don't see the tree that kills you! "

"Wow! A TVR band! So presumably they play really loud, really fast and then burst into flames! "

That was really funny....the one where they go on holiday to America
and they have $1000 each to buy a car instead of renting one, then
crossing four states they have to sell it again! to see if it was cheaper
than the hiring option.

They got a Dodge Pick up,  a Cadillac,  and a Camaro  ....

...  omg they are too funny!

I've watched a lot of the clips on Youtube. They can be pretty amusing. I liked the bits on the Reliant Robin and the Marauder. And the road trip in Alabama was hilarious. :D

And yes, the US version is boring. Why would you start out a show like that with a "competition" between three boring pick up trucks? Are they trying to be Motor Trend in TV show form?

Ah yes, train encouters.  My Grandma Minnie would load up the grandkids in her Merc (in the 1950's) and take a ride in the "country".  She'd look for trains to race over the railroad crossings.  It was scary for us, but in retrospect I'm certain the train were further away than they seemed to be.  I'm sure however that she caused quite a few early retirements among the train crews.

The cast and crew of TV’s Top Gear have had to flee Argentina after they were pelted with stones by a crowd incensed that one of their vehicles had a number plate that appeared to refer to the Falklands conflict.

The crew, including presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond were filming in Patagonia, southern Argentina, as part of a programme featuring a remote highway passing through Chile and Argentina.

Title: Re: The Top Gear Thread

I think it was the shortest challenge!

Clarkson is well known,  infamous,  for being opinionated and right wing.  He probably wanks to his shrine of Maggie Thatcher.  I suspect his reputation arrived in Argentina before he did.   I also suspect they were looking for 'something' to get disgruntled over.

He has had several warnings from bosses at the beeb.  Ed Milliband has criticised him for mocking the poor, the unemployed, the lefties.   He shouldn't say that really because to do so implies that poor people have no sense of humour.  Of course they do.

It was a bad idea by BBC bosses to send them.

I actually like him,  despite his right wing views.
