We had this thread a fair while back...so I thought I'd ask everyone again...
Do you use the default look and feel for the site, or some of the alternatives, like Black Rain?
I notice the majority of users use the default....have you tried another theme?
Every time I do try to switch, it feels weird, like it's a completely different site....but one day I'm going to force myself to use it for a week and see how I go.

I use the forum default, but I occasionally use the other ones when I'm trying to figure out some issue that pertains to them. Black Rain hurts my eyes, though.

i havent really tried em out, just using the blue one. i am gonna try the black rain now but I SHALL BE POSTING IN AMBIENT LIGHTING!! :lol:

You're right that it's not a dark room, especially not in the daytime. My computer is beside the back door so I can see my daughter playing outside while I post.

Yeah, I think I like the look of Black Rain, but because I've got locked into using the default...it feels 'funny' to change it...it just doesn't feel like I'm here or something?
I do want to try it...I just have to force myself! It annoys me when I get stuck in my ways.

OK, I've just changed it to Black Rain.
Yesterday it said 12 users had it, now today (prior to me using it) it says 13?? I realise of course some of those users may not be here anymore, so maybe it is just you 3 now.
I realised what wasn't right for me was the layout, but if I select, 'Black Rain' AND change the Smiley set preferences to 'Classic'...the page layout is the similar, so that helps.
Let's see if I last a week.
I think the most I lasted before was one or two sessions, and that was it!

Had a look at your avatar in the black rain theme, and it does look good.
Most avatars look great in this theme.
Had I chosen for this in the beginning, I would have been hooked. But now, I2 doesn't feel like I2 looking at it in this theme.
And I don't like the background in the shoutbox when it is a big newsfeature that gets shown.
Maybe one day I will tell myself to use it for a week like Eclair. Not now though.
Smileys look really bright in this theme, bit too bright even. The chocolate smiley looks as if you could eat it though.

Had a look with the black rain and didn't like it as much. With the default, the background of my avatar is barely visible. Like you, I've gotten used to the blue. Also, can remember when first joining and testing themes, didn't like the black because it didn't apply when here as a guest.

I have to stick wiith the normal one because all of the others have certain problems. I think most of the others look nicer though.

To copy text with a mouse, start at the beginning of the text you want to copy and hold down the left button while you move the mouse to highlight the text you want to copy. Then put the mouse arrow on top of the highlighted text and click on the right button to see your options, including copy, then click on copy with the left mouse button.
To paste the copied text, put the mouse arrow where you want to paste it and click on the right mouse button to see your options, including paste. Then select paste with the left mouse button to paste the text you just copied.

I don't have a job yet, but I hear that folks in the IT field start off on about 50k-60k a year, and on up to six figures in a few years.

My new avatar looks terrible on the black rain, but I like it on the default because I made it have a transparent background.

I'm still on Black Rain after 3 weeks solid and will most likely stick to it now.
I viewed a couple of threads as a Guest today before I logged in (it shows in the default as a guest) and it all looked odd to me.
I've made the change. I'd plus myself if I could! :plus:

I didn't even realize there were options until i ran across this thread. I spend too much time on PHPBB2. I like Black Rain :)

just switched to black rain. saw it mentioned a few times over my brief run through of the thread... it seems a little dark but ill keep it for a bit and see how i like it.

Yeah, once I perservered through about 5 sessions with it on, I started to get used to it a little more. I'd never perservered with it so much before....only like 5 or 10 minutes and it wouldn't feel right and I'd switch it back.
The default one looks odd to me now, so not sure if I'd revert back. Just shows how perservering through a change can be fruitful in the end!

Fabulous, glad I started the thread then. Which reminds me, I'm not sure if we have a thread for newbies re functionality stuff here. Or if we do, where we can put it in a spot that's easy to see. I'll start a thread and see what we have or what we can start.
Because there are other things like how karma points work which weren't explained clearly - or maybe I had a moment. But for years I never realised you could give any member karma at any time, you just couldn't karma the SAME person within an hour.
I always interpreted as you can't give anyone karma within an hour of handing out a karma point.
So stuff like that, yes, I'll check and see.
