Title: Thanksgiving Music!
Post by: DukeNukem on November 25, 2010, 02:55:28 PM
I gots me some very merry tunes for ye all to celebrate Thanksgiving on this day. Okay, I feel like shit as usual and I thought I would like to post some of what I am listening to.

Oh, and this is not Thanksgiving music. This is a band called Shape of Despair, part of the rather obscure "Funeral Doom Metal" genre. These two songs are part of their excellent album "Angels of Distress", and they are the shortest, the other songs are up to 18 minutes long. Yes, all of this album is pure funeral sadness in musical form. It encompasses the elements of Funeral Doom Metal, which are slow tempos, heavy downtuned guitars, gutteral death metal vocals, and especially prominent keyboards. If you don't like it, then fuck off. This is real fucking music, not that mainstream anti-individuality bullshit that the record companies put out and sell billions of copies of every year, because let's face it, most people are under media control. This music is pure, untouched by any trend, greed, nor has it been altered or contaminated by any overpaid, talentless record company employees or executives. Pure music.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Don't you get it? The point is that no one but idiots really care whether their music is "mainstream" or not. Who gives a shit? (apart from fucktards like you obviously)

That was not my point. My point is that I think the genre sounds pretty much the same, making it as bad as the "mainstream" music you despise, IMO.

I don't get the obsession with whether music is mainstream or not, personally I'd like something regardless if it's well known or not. Sure I don't like most music of today myself, but does that warrant me to be a prick about it?

Rush is damn near mainstream, but they are the very definition of independent, thinking man's music.  :police:

I've been a bit of a fuddy-duddy with music most of my life.  I grew up with Spike Jones, Six Fat Dutchman, Sophie Tucker.  As a teen I couldn't stand the Beatles (sorry Odeon), but was a Dave Clark 5 fan.  All my life I've liked bagpipes, harp, classical, some show tunes and quirky music (Napoleon XIV).  But I also liked Chicago (DOA), and some generic current stuff.

I guess I never found the river and don't worry what is mainstream.  I listen to what I like and don't worry about labels.  I have found that I usually don't like songs that ago on over 4 minutes or that are operatic, guitar or violin solos.

In all honesty the best Thanksgiving music are the sounds of a healthy, happy family.

Rush is good, but overplayed. My favorite album is "Caress of Steel". The 12 minute epic, "The Necromancer" is godly.

I only listen to entire albums, I rarely ever listen to just one song. Of course you're gonna get monotony if you have just one song.

Why don't I just post this article from IGN instead? There are some YouTube's on there too.

If you were a Doom Metal fan, you wouldn't be complaining about today's music because there are plenty of great new talent out there, like Orchid, Jex Thoth, Hour of 13, Ghost, Briton Rites, Witchcraft, Blood Ceremony, etc., most are very reminiscent of 70's bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Sir Lord Baltimore, Jethro Tull, Blue Oyster Cult, etc.

Knowing the origins of the First (Puritan) Thanksgiving I'm betting that Thanksgiving music was a bunch of hymns.
