I'm so sorry you are going through this, Richard.

I had a root canal a while back because I got a cavity under a crown and it didn't show up on x-ray until it got near the root and it really hurt a lot.

If you have to have a root canal, they give you shots in your jaw so the work doesn't hurt.  It's expensive, though.

Weird, I just saw this thread while I was asnoopin, and I misread it as "Do you like fisting yourself?"

It doesn't even look like "Do you like fisting yourself?"

If your mom doesn't have the money, don't endanger your health.  Spend the fire agate money.  It's the sensible thing to do.

the thing thats confusing me is the last time i had my impacted wisdom tooth removed one side of my face was swollen like all hell! this time my face appears to be normal. exept the same pain is there!

My root canal was around $1000, but I had dental insurance and paid less than $200.  My root canal had to be drilled through the top of my crown, and it was on a back tooth, though.

I would guess a filling would be around $100 or so, depending on what it's made of and how large it needs to be.

i think its just a cavity. but unfortunatley i cant detach my head to find out and get a better look

yikes! $1,000 is ALOT of moneys. $100 sounds about well right for fillings, i hope thats all i need done.

actually i'm hoping a fucking miraculos healing takes place. to night, im praying to Zoroaster!  >:D

I've had two root canals. The last one got really infected from a leaked/faulty filling and I was literally screaming in pain.

I agree with the others that you need to go to a dentist as quick as possible.

Was that before or after you had the root canal, Binty?

I feel uncomfortable with this post for 2 reasons.

I'm Jewish and I'm pretty sure your comment was meant to refer to the stereotype of the money-hungry Jew.  You have the right to make such a comparison, just as I have the right to say that the comment isn't something I feel is accurate.

A dentist's visit usually lasts 20 - 30 minutes.  For this you get one or more X-rays, an examination of your teeth, and a teeth cleaning.  The cost is about $125.  A medical doctor's visit usually lasts 7 minutes.  For this you get your weight and blood pressure measured and about 7 minutes with the doctor.  The cost is again about $125.

Before, thankfully. I guess I didn't really make my post very clear, sorry

I have never had a root canal, just fillings. I have 4 I think. Does everyone need a root canal eventually? I thought it was just for older people but Binty is heaps younger than me. I last went to the dentist about a month ago and I didn't need anything done.

I hope it all works out well, richard. I have never had a toothache but I had braces and they hurt at first.

one time i got a piece of calculus lodged between two teeth, and somehow covered up by swollen gum

i bent a needle, and performed my own little dentistry work. in the mirror.
my hands were shaking so badly.

i promise you
the sensation of gums being pulled
is very very unique :S

:plus:

And the pain Richard, yeah could be rootcanal being infected. That can happen without a swollen face.
Can be the underlying main nerve reacting, that will make hell complete.

You can go to the dentist, or take the DIY option. I know people who pulled their own molars when in pain. Have some booze and courage, that's all it takes.

And about dentists, I saw mine last week. The assistant wanted to write down all his actions for the bill, he did not allow her to write it all down. More after quality than money my dentist. I really like that man.

edited for spelling

I had my first root-canal done after hitting 40, my ex sister in law started having them at 20.
I did not have pain-sensations from infected root-canals, she did go through hell.

My nearly 80 year old Dad never had a root-canal treatment. And he was past 70 before he got partial prosthetics.

It just differs per person.

My right eyetooth is fake...I split the original one after years of grinding and clenching. It cost me $854.  :zombiefuck:

Next time perhaps you could ask for laughing gas, nitrous oxide.  It doesn't eliminate the pain or discomfort, you just don't have a reaction or emotion to it.  You don't laugh, much less hysterically, and can usually drive yourself home by the time you pay your bill.

Thank goodness you just needed a filling, though.  A root canal would have been even more intrusive.

Here if you are under a care plan (if you're on a pension) you can get dentist treatment covered by Medicare, which means you get back virtually everything you pay, or sometimes you pay nothing at all. And if you visit the doctor while on a pension, they usually bulk bill, so Medicare covers that as well.

Even if you are admmitted to a public hospital for an operation.

One time as a kid, they forgot me on the gas. Long time, think they went to lunch. Couldn't walk for a bit afterwards.

Alas, American Medicare doesn't cover routine dental care.  It may cover dental care from an accident.  Neither does it provide glasses.
