i never really get used to civilians suffering in war footage and stuff
be it old people, men or women, kids or toddlers, i dont even want to allow myself to get used to it.
some moments ago i saw footage of refugees fleeing, i noticed what would be a maybe 3 year old, running on his own, alongside what i hope to be relatives. but not carried. he ran on his own legs. its just wrong that someone that young should be exposed to such a real danger. a 3 year old mind realizing the need to flee, and run... they shouldnt know about it...
i get all heartbroken at it :(
and not just kids, altho theres something "extra" w kids, but also when i see some chubby palestinian grannie crying her eyes out, screaming to god... or grown men crying freely, all because of the stubbornness of their leaders.

this image i always found very powerfull
its from gaza, during this summers bombing
basket-ball court, civilian balcony, a red-cross guy, people running. illegal munition, these bright light pieces burn into your flesh, and wont stop burning.
that back yard could be anywhere in the world.

war fascinates me a lot, but also makes me sad :(

I've seen worse and felt nothing for them. They make great photography subjects though. :zoinks:
Tip: 80% of those photos are deliberately taken out of context. Some are even staged/photoshopped! Photography is great for manipulating thick fucks.

That goes way back even Mathew Brady set up the photos in the US civil war

Yeah, after Hurricane Katrina, the money I donated (wasn't much, either, as I had only the one job at the time)
was to Best Friends, a no-kill animal sanctuary that sent workers to New Orleans to rescue pets that had been left behind during the evacuations. :(

:(
stuff like that is so sad

Yeah, animal suffering gets to me in a way human suffering seldom does. :(
Edit: It isn't always that simple, I do feel for people in some cases. What spurred me to send the check to Best Friends was reading an account of a little boy
whose pet was taken from him because there was no room for animals in the rescue vehicles. That really hurt my heart. :'(

There is a scene in Saving Private Ryan where a young French girl slaps her father because he didn't keep them out of a skirmish/battle. I thought it was a very telling moment about the powerlessness of parents and the terror of war for civilians.

You can't base foriegn policy on emotions, so, No, I'm not a bleeding heart. :smarty:

Virtually all of the Auschwitz photos were kept in 2 albums, shot by different people. One a Nazi and the other an inmate. Both albums turned up years later hidden in furniture and an attic in a couple of houses. The ffotage used for the stills on these docos comes from these albums. They say there were none taken of the gas chambers and the ovens.
The Nazi album was meant to be a record of welcome to Auschwitz - the family camp.

I am, usually. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with empathy.
-
I dislike it when people make fun of and/or abuse the elderly, to hell with them :grrr:
-
I don't care for the majority of old people in Poland 8)
-
Of course, it depends on the type, but those people often have very interesting stories to tell about the past, I love to have endless conversations with my grandmothers about how it was like to be poor in Norway 50 years ago.
-
I guess. My grandad remembers the Nazi occupation of Warsaw.

Not a bleeding heart, no.

There are more important things the human race should be worrying about. In fact war shouldn't even be going on. Itss retarded. We should focus all of our efforts on the search for earthlike planets and space travel technology.

War is part of human nature. Read The Territorial Imperative by Robert Ardrey foe specifics on why.

Why, so we can fuck up some other planet?

Its not part of my nature. I know you'll say I was a soldier and all, but I only did that for certain benefits. I think the human race killing each other is a pretty facepalm worthy thing.

Actually, we are getting close to fusion nuclear energy, which is clean burning. We MAY mess up another planet, but with enough practice I think we'll get it right.

You exhibit aggressive tendencies, war is aggressive tendencies channeled into a mass effort, all the John Lennon songs and kumbaya singing in the world will not change that.

true,
as rage says, its not everybodys individual nature, but as a species, yes, war is part of us, and will never go away.
alliances will also fall apart, as generations turn, and begin to forget lessons learned.
greed and fascism will come and go. i almost want to knock wood, cus our safe civilized western world seems closer and closer to forget everything about the past, and plunging into violence and madness again.
