For those of you who live in England, where exactly do you live? I've been talking to the study abroad advisor at my university, and I am looking at three universities in England and one in Australia. I'm most likely going to study abroad next semester, before it gets too late. The colleges I'm looking into are Worcester College of Higher Education, Edge Hill University in Lancashire, and Northumbria University in Newcastle. (The Australian one is Macquarie University in Sydney.) I am just curious as to where you all are and if you know anything about these universities.
-
I don't know anyone who has been at those but can tell you the cost of living is far lower in the North. Also, you might have a bit of trouble at first with the Newcastle accent.
-
Ah, ok. Ta.
-
Worcester one is very boring, mate of mine from college went there and hated it.
The other two im unsure of
-
i don't know about any of them, QC, sorry.
what is it you're going to study? i might be able to be more help if i knew that.

I don't know anything about the universities you mentioned so I didn't reply- I'm in Yorkshire.
Will any of the courses you take involve workplacements in a school? If so I would second Dunc's advice about a Newcastle accent being difficult to understand at times.
-
Hmmm, I'm guessing workplacements is what we call fieldwork here...I think it depends on the school I go to. If the accents are hard to understand in Newcastle though, then I definitely won't go there, because I'm horrible at understand certain accents.

I'm in Yorkshire.
I too am part of the yorkshire posse

Thought you were an 'off comed 'un', Praetor? :P

Come to Nottingham Trent.

But European maps are so much more fun... ;) :P

i'm unable to help you but, if you join here (http://www.aspievillage.org.uk/), there may be some people who can help you. it's a UK-only site but, if you explain your situation to one of the moderators first, they should allow you to post there. if not, i am happy to start a thread there on your behalf (if you tell me what you want me to write); i can post it in a public area so you will be able to read the replies.

Thanks for your help, though it looks like I cannot even read that site now due to my American IP.
Sorry, access to this site is forbidden
REASON 1: If you are reading this message, you are not able to access this site at present. This may be because a temporary or permanent ban has been issued to you, however if you have not been clearly notified of a ban, then you have NOT been banned. If you are unsure, please e-mail COUNCIL@ASPIEVILLAGE.ORG.UK, but first, please read REASON 2.
REASON 2: As of 19th September 2006, this site is restricted to United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland IP addresses only, since it is not supposed to be an international site. This is currently in a testing stage and some members within the UK or Ireland may end up seeing this message. If that is the case, please e-mail COUNCIL@ASPIEVILLAGE.ORG.UK stating your username and we will make sure that your access to the site is fixed. The reason why you may have been automatically blocked is if you use an internet provider that routes via the USA, even though you are in the UK or Ireland.

I can understand why they might want to limit members to those from the UK, but blocking 'foreign' IP's from even looking at the site? ::)
-
It's McJagger's fault.
-
It's McJagger's fault.
Everything is Mcjagger's fault, unless of course its Dunc's, or anyone else who belongs to the aspie elite
-
This was most certainly caused by McJagger joining the that site though. :P
-
For some reason, aspie village blocking american IP's really fucking pisses me off.
-
I wholeheartedly agree with their decision and have decided to go even further by blocking out of my mind any posts with IP's from outwith the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Particularly odeon's.
-
This was most certainly caused by McJagger joining the that site though. :P
but i was actually respectful in my posts.

Should we take this to mean your return is only temporary? :(

Still your fault, you damn American invading their site. :P

Should we take this to mean your return is only temporary? :(
Yes, but not for the reason you might think. My last post was a whimsical gag. In my pauper's subsistence i seem to be lacking the necessary funds to adequately deal with my intenet bill to the providor's satisfaction whatsoever and so it has come to pass that the wholly unreasonable vampires have cut off my connection with little thought or deliberation, like a smoker would put out the source of his/her vice. The result being that im left in a virtual wilderness. Surrounded by the conspicious brutes that most of the general population of the hoi polloi indubitably are, with no feasible way of communicating with my peers in the comfort of my own home. The only scant consolation being that i know my gaggling of friends at Intensity et al are out there furiously tapping away at their keyboards, bitching away, vying for attention, as ever, like the adorable little children you are.

Yeah that is going a bit to far.

Sorry, but i dont want to be accused of rubbing shoulders with the elite and so tarnish the good reputation i have so endeavoured to preserve.
-
Ah, yes, but McJagger would do anything to preserve that reputation so you needn't worry.

Have i been the subject of discussion in my absence? Who art thou, that would presume to assasinate my character - whilst i was at seas- like a coward would sneakily knife his victim in the back. Well i am indeed glad that my loyal henchman has managed to hold steadfast whilst the plebians would try to sully my name.
-
At seas... ::)

Pot, meet kettle. Kettle, pot.
:wanker:
You are a wolf in sheeps clothing, sir, and i defy you. The pissantguy and yourself are beneath such a man and i would bid you retract your slabberings at once. Lest you should want to be on the wrong end of a literary thrashing.

Cheap bravado, nothing more.

Just the kind of uncultured response i was expecting from Cretinous dullards like you pair. Alas, you are destined to remain simpletons whom i (or indeed fortune) cannot save from the pits of humanity.

Eamonn, you been readin books or sumptin cause yer posts, em sure full of em fancy words.
Where's Flo when we need him...? ???

Thine has sagely cast aside the vernacular which is the result of an upbringing in the midst of the great unwashed and shall forever more communicate thineself as the gentleman that i am. Please excuse me, sir, it is well-nigh time for a hearty meal.

I have a fabulous idea. Let's have Flo translate what Emaonn says, and Eamonn translate what Flo says. ;D

I can see English is'nt your mother tongue O-dolt-ious one. Your command of the English language is equal to that of a dyslexic American (the majority, it pains me to point out) and is therfore worth Swede Fanny Adams to my intelect. It ill behoves you or someone of your ilk to speak unfavourably upon my posts with derision when you have the comprehensiveness of a spastic on LSD.

What reputation? ;D
-
Marry?! It's my old friend Kevv, and delighted i am to come across your acquaintance again, squire. As you very well know, my good man, my reputation is of high conceit and not to be trodden upon by peasants of Odeon's calibre. What say ye?

Yeah for sure in the end.

Your loquacious babbling is befitting of a ne'er-do-well and not fitting of a patrician of my standing. Now go and work on an oar on a galley or other such drudgery you ruffian.
-
is "slabbering" a combination of "slavering" and "slobbering"? if so, jolly well done. if not, best get yer words right, especially as "thine" is the aecond person singular, and not the first person.
i say, dunc put my smiley on - huzzah! :woohoo:
-
'Thine' relates to thyself as first person. A possesive case of 'thou'. 'Slabbering' is to drool like a child or idiot. I fear you have got yourself all mixed up, Beldam.

Technically,Three. I speak Scots, English (though this could probably be better described as Pidgin English) and I am fluent in Double Dutch. You'd be well advised to pick one language and use it well. :P

i think eamonns posts are pure genius.
remember, he always has a clever plan. i am waiting with bated breath for this one to unfold.

That may be, McJ, but he lost this one. His clever plan didn't work. ::)

Lost the Shakespeare touch already? Try the kiddie language instead. It suits you better, little boy. Now, face it. You were pwned, and everybody here knows it. You, however, you need to gain some years and experience before you can admit it. The truth is painful, sometimes.
It's called growing up, Eamonn.
-
maybe i am blinded by hero worship (or ignorance) but i do not see it that way at all.
i think he pwned you and peaguy.
just a casual observation. carry on.

You're starting to get it, I see.

The eyebrows have it. :eyebrows:

maybe i am blinded by hero worship (or ignorance)
blinded, yes. but i reckon odeon had it about right when he said hero worship - you do tend to be blind to the less palatable bits of people who've grabbed your interest.
apart from anything else, i don't believe eamonn thinks any of this is important enough to make some sort of cunning plan for it - it's just banter, cos he probably has better things to do with his life. (i could be wrong about this, of course).
i like eyebrows. mine are suggestive, apparently. (some people on here can say whether they agree with that or not - i'm still not sure i understand what it means, precisely...)
