Title: British (English) aspies, where are you?
Post by: QuirkyCarla on September 28, 2006, 10:37:00 AM
For those of you who live in England, where exactly do you live? I've been talking to the study abroad advisor at my university, and I am looking at three universities in England and one in Australia. I'm most likely going to study abroad next semester, before it gets too late. The colleges I'm looking into are Worcester College of Higher Education, Edge Hill University in Lancashire, and Northumbria University in Newcastle. (The Australian one is Macquarie University in Sydney.) I am just curious as to where you all are and if you know anything about these universities.

I don't know anyone who has been at those but can tell you the cost of living is far lower in the North. Also, you might have a bit of trouble at first with the Newcastle accent.

I don't know anything about the universities you mentioned so I didn't reply- I'm in Yorkshire.

Will any of the courses you take involve workplacements in a school?  If so  I would second Dunc's advice about a Newcastle accent being difficult to understand at times.

Hmmm, I'm guessing workplacements is what we call fieldwork here...I think it depends on the school I go to. If the accents are hard to understand in Newcastle though, then I definitely won't go there, because I'm horrible at understand certain accents.

i'm unable to help you but, if you join here (http://www.aspievillage.org.uk/), there may be some people who can help you. it's a UK-only site but, if you explain your situation to one of the moderators first, they should allow you to post there. if not, i am happy to start a thread there on your behalf (if you tell me what you want me to write); i can post it in a public area so you will be able to read the replies.

Yes, but not for the reason you might think. My last post was a whimsical gag. In my pauper's subsistence i seem to be lacking the necessary funds to adequately deal with my intenet bill to the providor's satisfaction whatsoever and so it has come to pass that the wholly unreasonable vampires have cut off my connection with little thought or deliberation, like a smoker would put out the source of his/her vice. The result being that im left in a virtual wilderness. Surrounded by the conspicious brutes that most of the general population of the hoi polloi indubitably are, with no feasible way of communicating with my peers in the comfort of my own home. The only scant consolation being that i know my gaggling of friends at Intensity et al are out there furiously tapping away at their keyboards, bitching away, vying for attention, as ever, like the adorable little children you are.

Have i been the subject of discussion in my absence? Who art thou, that would presume to assasinate my character - whilst i was at seas- like a coward would sneakily knife his victim in the back. Well i am indeed glad that my loyal henchman has managed to hold steadfast whilst the plebians would try to sully my name.

Your command of the English language is equal to that of a dyslexic American (the majority, it pains me to point out) and is therfore worth Swede Fanny Adams to my intelect. Lost the Shakespeare touch already? Try the kiddie language instead. It suits you better, little boy. Now, face it. You were pwned, and everybody here knows it. You, however, you need to gain some years and experience before you can admit it. The truth is painful, sometimes.

It's called growing up, Eamonn.

One word - 'Oblivious'.

blinded, yes.  but i reckon odeon had it about right when he said hero worship - you do tend to be blind to the less palatable bits of people who've grabbed your interest.

apart from anything else, i don't believe eamonn thinks any of this is important enough to make some sort of cunning plan for it - it's just banter, cos he probably has better things to do with his life.  (i could be wrong about this, of course).

i like eyebrows.  mine are suggestive, apparently.  (some people on here can say whether they agree with that or not - i'm still not sure i understand what it means, precisely...)

A bot, most likely.

what's with this "bot, most likely" thing?
have you designed some kind of filter to exclude the humans?

 No, it's just an educated guess. Most of our visitors are Google bots indexing the site.
