Uhh, WP and AFF were started at almost the exact same time and from the same source, if memory serves.
AFF and WP have no "feud", it's just something that keeps cropping up - Plank is at AFF and Gareth, Amy and myself all hold accounts at WP. Neither party posts at the others very often.

Peter Bell, Autism Votes, and AFAA are leading the charge on these important fronts and can use all the support they can get. The ND community would do themselves a service by getting on board.
I am hopeful that Alex will also see fit to “clean up” some of the more inflammatory posts on his site to reflect this partnership with AS and demonstrate his apparently new found sensitivity to those on the spectrum who are unable to function at his level and those who strive and hope for a cure for this often (but not always) calamitous and high risk disorder.

Indeed and I have always been straight up with Alex and with my feelings on things here. I have not tried to win the hearts and minds of people in my postings and at times a little brutal but I believe I have been fair and accurate in every post.
The question of trust is something that needs to be considered in context. It demands knowledge that he really is not privy to. Anyone here could be anything and so in finding something concrete to attach meaning to the abstract concept of trust you have only teh observed behaviours and the knowledge of others. Here we have people I know very well with experience of me speaking in unison on what I am like from a perspective of experience and in light of things that Alex could not possibly know. This is the context that will help define whether I am "trustworthy".
Naturally I am humbled by the sentiments.
While I take no issue with you rossc, and you might even be a pretty decent person and make a decent moderator, generally asking for a mod position never helps. I agree we need more moderators, a good few more. But asking in and of itself leads people (not necessarily us, just speaking in general here) to believe that you want some degree of forum power for whatever reason.
Please continue to be a productive and supportive member, be kind, helpful in the best ways you can. I also would give the same advice to everyone else.
You may be a decent person and a decent mod.
You seem to be making some strange associations here and I will try to address this "asking"issue. See if you follow the logic and then apply it back to what you have just posted and see how it then holds up.
From the moment we are born, we ask (in crying) to have our needs met.
We gain knowledge and experience through asking. We gain experience in things through the promotion of ourselves.
This is what this is. Seeking a new opportunity for which I believe I am well suited. I don't expect Alex to be a mind reader and I don't think it is fair that he could have an insight to my knowledge or experience or what I could bring to the table YET it is a bad thing to show him?

Do people get jobs handed to them in real life without putting it out there? When you are at work do you wait for your employer to notice you have been there two years without a break before they say "Hey you know what how about we give you a holiday now?" Do you apply?

Of course the alternative is worth considering just so as to be fair.

True... provided it's actual members here that are voting in this. I've seen the thread about this at I2 and I don't think it's a good idea for people from other forums to attempt to rig the vote here. Not that it really matters anyway, but it shows how this sort of thing was flawed from the start.
These people are members here as you can obviously see from the post counts of the ones posting here.
Are they members of I2? Yep most of them. Are they members of other sites? Yup most of them. Does this suggest "rigging" No it doesn't rigging would be proxy accounts and multiple account holders voting which I don't believe this has occurred. Why try for the smear here?

Intensity/Intensity2 has always beena dirty word as far as Wp are concerned. I think it goes back to the original days when dunc and the others broke away from WP and there must'vee been some ill feeling (as banned members have toward WP) and the mods from WP saw it as a slight on them. To an extent it is, because they didn't do their jobs properly. Why did people like Calandale, TM1, Starbuline etc be forced to either quit modding or whatever? Why suddenly did the site get left in the hands of mainly 4 who couldn't trust the rest of the membership to act decently? No wonder people who went from there to here were bitter (and everyone who went to ZOMG did the same thing in complaining) and I guess WP felt threatened, but it seems a bit childish for them to ban everyone who mentions another site or other banned members just because of some perceived threat or jealousy that may or may not exist.

Yeah it did. I found it odd it happen to Renaeden as well if she hadn't been there in months. Maybe it was for something she said here? Who knows. Same thing happened with Emor after she posted a thread at the Psych Forums regarding WP and she called it the WP Project. It was obvious it was sins that did it. Heck she even posted the link to that thread on WP.
I noticed my login information quit working after I bitched about her here after the bogus warning she gave me. Coincidence?
I also know she did it to hale bopp and punkykat and she helped reset their passwords and my crazy theory is she did that just so she help them reset it and they would say how she helped them get back on the forum when their passwords quit working so she build up her reputation. They both did they she reset them. Hale Bopp said it here and punkykat made a blog about it on her deviantart page.

I am an admin over at Aspies For Freedom - we've been around just as long, if not longer, than Wrongplanet, and the two forums came from the same place - the founders are friends.
Why would I recommend someone for the job of Mod unless I felt they were up to it? Were it my decision (and if he were still an active poster there) I would nominate Ross for the job at AFF instantly.
And hey, if you don't like the job he does, remove him from power. He'll certainly do a better job of it than Sinsbadly did.

If Alex isn't appointing mods who ask for the job, then what criteria is he using to appoint them? We know the current ones are past their use-by dates, so it would be within WP's interests to have fresh faces and ideas amongst the people that have authority. As I said, ross is willing to put his hand up, so why not give him the job? MOF, why not give a few more the position as well and clean the stale ones out altogether? Pikajedi3 has had experience as a modmin, and has done quite well. SG could do no worse than QM or MrMark (personally I think Kit/SG would be one who could handle the job quite well. She wouldn't have favourites and would treat everyone equally. renaeden, who is a brilliant admin here, could do a far better job than say, Lau, because she has the knowledge about systems and the respect to do the job without people getting upset with her. And they are members who have WP accounts, not just I2 members seeking to 'take over'.
It cannot hurt in the slightest to have fresh ideas, or is there the worry that this new deal will be threatened if the membership is allowed to actually be treated with fairness and equality?

I wouldn't want the job - I'm not established enough over at WP, I'm a relative unknown - and I've enough to be dealing with at AFF.
Ross would be a fantastic person for the job, and SG would also. Renaeden has practical experience with backend stuff, as does Ross.

The answer is change. They feel the mods that are there aren't doing their jobs properly, or with their assistance could be done better. There have been times when Alex has been question over some of the decisions, and has said "WTF?', so it makes you wonder who is running the ship. In any business, you would either apply for promotion if the position came up, or asked if there was the chance of a promotion. Waiting for promotion doesn't necessarily work, because you may be overlooked and the job given to someone who is either a favourite, or has less skills than you. I never went for promotions in my job IRL, because I saw it as trying to kiss arse, but there is no reason why people shouldn't further themselves if they really need to. And while this is mainly a virtual world, becoming mod at a forum is something that would give you some authority and achievement. As I said, if people don't put their hands up and ask, then what criteria is Alex using to pick them?
I mean, you took the job as admin on zOMG, but had you applied for it, I think you would have got it anyway, Soph. Mainly because you could do the job so well and you put the effort into it. So it stands to reason that ross could do just as good a job as mod by asking for it as any of the others who were chosen by whatever other means. Better, in fact.

Ahem.. That just proves Alex has no managerial skills. How the fuck he'd get on in the real world is beyond me then. The prime reason people get advancement in positions is because they have the drive to ask for advancement. Saying you're not ready just because you are keen enough to put your hand up shows a complete lack of understanding of how processes like this work. How the fuck did those other prats get modship then? Especially QM, who is only around you age, Kit? Even that gumby maku got modship, and I bet he touted his name all over the place as a candidate. If it is the hatred that they have for IntensitySquared, then they are worse than kindergarten kids fighting in the sandpit. We have what, 433 members to their supposed 20,000? Maybe this /takeover' by autism speaks has completely fucked his perspective on things, or the incumbents have had him by the short and curlies for too long.
Anyway, the real issue is trying to get fairness for the membership that has not been given. The only way to get this is with a fresh face, and fresh ideas. I don't give a shit about Alex's selection process, because it is flawed. If ross is willing to put himself up, then he deserves the chance. Same as you, Kit should get the chance too if you wanted it.

Come on Merle, QM and any of the others - we know you are reading this so cut the pretense. I know for a fact that Merle had an active account here not long after I first joined, as she did at zOMG, and she would log on and read particular threads (probably seeing if they were being flamed). And I bet London to a brick that Quatermass has had at least 1 account on both sites as well (we know that Jerry Hatake had been eavesdropping on zOMG the same way Merle had been, and he was crawling to get modship) so cut the bullshit and come clean.
There is a real challenge here by a bona fide candidate to do some good on your site, and by the sound of it some 'nobbling ' may be going on. IF that is the case, then Alex should seriously do something about you guys and arrest the damage before it gets any worse. You two, QM and Sins, have been responsible for most of the bannings and ill feeling over at least the past 2-3 years because of some childish jealousy or game you are playing. FFS, people in your position should know better, and if you can't act responsibly and fairly toward your own members, and to people that are willing to become members, then it's past time you went. You might call me bitter for being banned by you and the others, but that isn't the reason I'm writing this. Shit, your site needs saving, and if appointing new mods with fresh ideas is the only way to do this, then so be it.
So stop trying to sabotage any attempt by another member with good standing to help get fairness amongst your site, and accept his nomination like the adults you are meant to be.

On Gestalt I don't really care whether someone is asked or asks for the position. But we do tend to choose the admins very carefully, and it's a group effort. But we look for certain qualities in an admin and select people based on those who fit. And we do tend to be a bit more careful and choose people we've known for some time because we don't have moderators on Gestalt, we have all admins. So any admin can seriously change the site if s/he so chose. So we choose people we think best we can trust.

I don't think I could moderate on WP. Not only am I banned, but moderating is different to being an admin. You have to have some people skills, I think. So really, it must be pretty difficult to be an aspie moderator. Too difficult for me. :autism:

The reason I suggested you is that you have the back-end knowledge of systems (as does Lau) and you would be able to fix any problems that arise without too many hassles. Lau doesn't seem to do a hell of a lot anyway (in the mod dept), so handling systems may be your cup of tea.

Well, I can say that I'm not one, even though some might think I could do the job. But as renaeden said, it isn't that easy to be an admin, and being a mod is probably not easy either.
I've got plenty of time, but haven't got the facilities and the real knowledge to do it myself.

Funny thing was, when I went back after being banned about twice, I was actually trying to be serious with my posts, until the mods conspired to get rid of me again. By the time I went back for the last time, I just wanted to piss 'em off. Sure, I complained alot then, but now it's more fun here.

I have no objections to the other sites, though they may have objections towards AFF.
Even if it's just to make joint statements, one site (though we have nearly 18,000 a little over 17,500 members) is but one site - but many communities all undersigning the same statement, well, now that's got a bit more oomph.

Just to give an example of an issue that may will arise; AFF is the oldest existing community, second to no other only to Aspergia, and with the largest population after WP; AFF should have authority over the Alliance.
Now, I'd never claim that - too much hard work - but permutations of that would arise.
(Is Aspergia even still running? WP and AFF both sprang from that seed, WP following AFF by a matter of weeks, but...)

Well, neutral ground, adjudicated by someone known across all the boards (or at least known by all admins), open only to the admins and moderators - have that trickle down for voting on each board.
I would nominate Couldbecousin or Tigger the Wing for the job, but Tigger isn't well enough anymore and I doubt CBC would want the job, frankly :P

Come on Merle, QM and any of the others - we know you are reading this so cut the pretense. I know for a fact that Merle had an active account here not long after I first joined, as she did at zOMG, and she would log on and read particular threads (probably seeing if they were being flamed). And I bet London to a brick that Quatermass has had at least 1 account on both sites as well (we know that Jerry Hatake had been eavesdropping on zOMG the same way Merle had been, and he was crawling to get modship) so cut the bullshit and come clean.
There is a real challenge here by a bona fide candidate to do some good on your site, and by the sound of it some 'nobbling ' may be going on. IF that is the case, then Alex should seriously do something about you guys and arrest the damage before it gets any worse. You two, QM and Sins, have been responsible for most of the bannings and ill feeling over at least the past 2-3 years because of some childish jealousy or game you are playing. FFS, people in your position should know better, and if you can't act responsibly and fairly toward your own members, and to people that are willing to become members, then it's past time you went. You might call me bitter for being banned by you and the others, but that isn't the reason I'm writing this. Shit, your site needs saving, and if appointing new mods with fresh ideas is the only way to do this, then so be it.
So stop trying to sabotage any attempt by another member with good standing to help get fairness amongst your site, and accept his nomination like the adults you are meant to be.

Honestly I have never gone back and trolled as a banned member. I had thought about it as SG for if I get banned again but never did it.
I think going back and spamming the place and trolling will just show them it was a good thing they banned you and why should they let you back? Plus it also makes it look like that's why you were banned in the first place.

I got out of a verbally and emotionally abusive relationship several months ago. I didn't even recognize the abuse until it started to get physical, which is common among victims of domestic violence. Our mutual friends could see it. I loved him up until the end when I realized. I thought he loved me, but I know now that he only loved controlling me. He liked to mess with my head and manipulate me emotionally to get what he wanted, and he was very, very good at it. He didn't hit me but I know it was coming if I had stayed.
The last straw was when he held me down on the bed. I tried to get away but I was weak from crying all night and fighting with him. I tried to wiggle away but he held me tighter. He held me down on the bed and softly stroked my cheek and said, "Katie I love you." Then he screamed in my ear, "YOU f***ing b***h I HATE YOUR f***ing GUTS!" Then he lightly touched my hair and kissed me sweetly, saying "I love you so much, Katie. Do you love me?" Then, one second later, " YOU'RE A f***ing c**t FACED b***h" . . .etc etc. This cycle repeated several times but I don't remember what happened after that. I stopped struggling. I was afraid he would kill me or rape me. I lied and said I loved him. I was compliant just to save myself. Somehow, I ended up by myself in the bed and he in the other room. I slept only a few hours, terrified he would wake up. I wanted to call the police but I knew they would just show up and then leave, and I knew he'd be really really angry. The next morning, he acted like everything was fine. I wanted to check into a mental hospital. I was almost nonverbal. My parents came (I asked them to) and he screamed equally horrendous things in my mother's face.
I moved out and got almost all of my possesions out safely. He deliberately smashed two items, claiming an accident. He tried to push my uncle down the stairs.
I have no contact with him anymore and got out safely. My daily life is back to normal but I still have nightmares. Luckily I don't have PTSD. I didn't function well for about 2 months, but that passed.
His family, who I was close to, won't speak to me. That's what hurts the worst. I miss his sister. I have no doubt that he is telling people that I abused him, or that I just went crazy, or some other collection of lies. I don't blame them for believing him. I believed his lies for over a year and a half. He is a talented deceiver, and it is difficult to realize that someone you love could be so cruel. I wouldn't be surprised if this message got deleted because my abuser runs this website. He seems like a "real nice guy". I just wanted to share my story with people who may have been there.

Yes I have some information to share with the WPFags. No I don't really. I am not adverse to sharing the odd opinion in the moist forthright and arrogant approach I can but seriously I have said everything I needed to say over and over here AND there. I guess electing me as a mod there would have made sense in a way.
They are Not learning from mistakes they make nor righting any wrongs. Things get swept under the carpet, any issues are condemned and the individuals banned and nothing resolved. I would have sort to clean house. Air dirty laundry and say "OK this is it people terrible isn't it. Have a good look and now this is what I propose to do to address it, any thoughts?"
Let them vent and cry and offer suggestions and then move on.
As it is they are into festering. Hell each to their own I guess.

John Elder Robison has resigned from Autism Speaks due to differences, and Alex may follow suit by disassociating himself from them. Or at least that's what I think, Alex wouldn't publicize the resignation if he wasn't siding with him.

Re: all this Alex/WP in partnership with AutSpeaks. I just wish that Alex did this all in his own name or in the name of his media company instead of bringing in WP for the sake of his self promotion, then we could say to each his own. I hate how he has no idea what's going on there most of the time (due to not caring or disinterest IMO, see: the past mod dramas. Or maybe he's genuinely too busy to notice. In that case he should think about putting WP's ownership in new, more attentive hands). But when a big career opportunity comes along he instantly hugs WP again and calls it his baby, like he's doing right now. Nah, Autism Speaks will never buy out WP. They know Alex has nothing else to use to make a name for himself so they'll take pity and leave him & WP be ;)
Ever watch Sopranos? I know it is a strange analogy to make.
In that once there was ever any association with any of these people, you were in. There was no turning it off or on or controlling it. You were unable to be out of the shadow no matter how you conducted yourself.
Autism Speaks is the same. Any involvement that is not outright condemnation put you in the shadow fro which you will never see the light of day.
I wasn't a fan of the Sopranos but I understand your analogy.
I can envision Alex sitting in that Autism Speaks boardroom one day, in his own comfy leather chair. If that day comes I hope WP will be in safe hands :)

It's interesting as it relates to Autism Speaks, but not as it relates to WP. Has anything interesting happened on WP recently?
Have you talked with Alex? I haven't spoken with him, but from what I've heard, he doesn't seem like the sort of person who cares about the ideologies of people who give him money. Hopefully, our resident WP spies members will let us know. :angel: 8)

I do not think he really gives a fat rat's crack about anyone. I think he looks for opportunities to do well for Alex and looks for relationships that he can use as a foothold to step towards bigger and better things for Alex.
