Whats everyones opinions on libraries?
Went there today, and the calmness was amazing, usually I buy books but from now on I think i'm just going to go there. I haven't been to the one in this city before.
For those who use libraries, what kind of books do you enjoy, and do you prefer to take them home or read them in the Library?
-
I like to eat a lot of beans and other gassy foods, and go to the library.
I can get my farts to reverberate through the whole building on a good day. 8)
-
Meh, I always forget to return books and cop lots of fines, so then I stopped going.

Did you find them down the back of your bed months later? :2thumbsup:
-
Books are free and movies you check out there.

"Oh shit! I needed to return that months ago!" Said that a few times.

Same with downloading shit off the internet. Plus there are no late fees :green:

I love libraries worked in one for two years in collage. Research was my specialty I knew where almost everything was. With the internet you can just do a search I miss the quite solitude of the stacks and periodical rooms

I should have returned a book back in August, I got one notice demanding I either reimburse the library for it. At this point, I probably owe fines equal to the cost of the book. I really need to get in there and face the penalty. :-\
-
And that library smell was the greatest

Hmm, it doesn't match personally, you don't get the calmness and atmosphere from the net.

Working in a library would be very a very peaceful environment.
Then a screaming child comes in and ruins everything :(

You can usually find me in the fucking library as a matter of fact. Total bookworm.

Libraries used to be the best places on earth. Surrounded by books, and sunlight and quiet. Then librarians stopped shushing people for being loud. And they brought in computers. And now people WON'T SHUT UP. Even in college libraries. During FINALS.
I think I should become a Library Nazi. :hitler: "YOU! On the cellphone! NO DVDs for you!" >:D

Libraries ftw.

Yep just pretend to work there and start shushing everyone  Usually you can find a quiet spot though, depending on how big it is. But it may not have sqishy sofas :(
-
I go to the UNF library almost every day. It is one of my favorite spots to do schoolwork. I do not usually visit the regular public libraries though.
-
I love going to libraries, but I don't often like the librarians, just the way that they seem to get really annoyed when I ask where something is and I then ask them to be more specific than just "in that room over there".
The privately owned ones aren't so bad although they sometimes charge late fees. It's the public libraries with volunteer staff that get annoying, they get annoyed by me not knowing where a certain section is (as I said above), they have ridiculous outdated policies regarding the computers (anything you save has to be on a floppy disk you bought from them, you have to sign in with your full name and social security card and even write down every site you plan to visit, they have signs all over the place urging everyone to be careful with who they give their "electronic mail" addresses to, as well as to stay away from "extremely dangerous" sites like MySpace).

Our delight at seeing others employ the "royal we" knows no bounds. :green:
I'm fairly certain that the last time I was in a library and tried to login to Intensity, the library's web browser blocked access. The Dragon was not amused by this. Aside from that small quibble, I find libraries to be nice, mellow places to hang out in.
-
I can fin almost anything in a good library and it's so much relaxing than the net
-
I do my degree in them - they are very good places to work in...
-
I used to study in one, too. Really quiet and nice.

The library at uni has an awesome science fiction book section. Don't know why, but it is there and I enjoy it very much. :)
-
i sometimes steal from libraries *blush*

Some people get degrees for studying it no doubt. Over here you can do some interesting essay topics and modules...

It looks like something one might see in a dream! Fantastic! ;D

Looks fabulous.

The open spiral staircases lend enchantment, but if I visited this library, I'd have to use the elevators...I'm afraid of heights and get very nervous on open staircases, to the point of having to stop climbing.

As long as I can hold on I'm fine. I have to work up that high sometimes but I hate it

Beautiful photo, but those cross beams look alarming, like they weren't part of the original design and added later.
-
Probably original lots of older structures that were open had them
