Post by: Adam on October 20, 2009, 05:35:02 PM
shouldn't we be encouraging people to adopt instead of spending loads of money on this kinda thing?

Some people are just deadset on having one of their "own".  Or they just wanna adopt babies and toddlers

Absolutely not. People should have the right to choose.

why?

there are enoughkids in the world already and plenty who need parents but don't have any

if you can't biologically have kids, you should adopt

No.  I think that parents should be able to choose whether they want to spend the money and time and effects on their health trying to bring their own genetic children into the world or if they want to spend similar amounts of time and money trying to adopt.

If you wanted to argue that perhaps IVF should not be publicly funded, then that is different, IMO.

that is what i meant

i worded it badly i guess

i meant shouldn't we be encouraging adoption instead of spending money on IVF. not shouldn't we be encouraging them not to spend THEIR money on IVF

although i don't think having a child should be a "right" everyone automatically has tbh, as it's not just about them, it;s about their kids too. and plenty of people should never be having kids in the first place imo

I have some good friends who spent a lot of money on several cycles of IVF and at the time I thought she was acting a little nuts trying so hard and spending so much money to try.

I was her shoulder to cry on when she got pregnant and then lost the baby each time an attempt succeeded.

In the end, they wound up adopting a little girl and now more recently they have adopted a little boy too, but I think they had the right to decide when they were ready to stop trying IVF.

I agree that not everyone has the "right" to have a child, but when has that ever stopped people from trying anyway?

I just think that there must be a reason if people can't have kids. What if they are going to pass down bad kid making genes with their IVF kids.
