Holy shit.
I know we have at least three members in Australia; Phlexor, SleepyDragon and TCO.
Were any of you affected?

Is this the same Dust Storm that turned Sydney hell red?
-
:zombiefuck:

Didn't get it in Townsville, although Brisbane copped a fair bit. I think Melbourne missed it, but it's been pissing down rain there. Rain and hail predicted for the footy this afternoon, BTW.

I can't help but wonder what the devoted Christians were thinking when they woke up to this.
Oh noes hell is freezing over, Jesus please forgive and don't damn me to eternity!! :bigcry:

I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
-
Wow, that's awesome.
Not at all fun for those affected I'm sure, but the pictures are surreal. :o
-
Something like that happened in 1908 when the big explosion (probably a comet hitting Earth) happened in Tunguska. The dust blew all the way to London.

We've been getting mild dust storms here too up in Northeast Victoria, not anywhere near as severely as Sydney was. However we've had those kind before around here as well, especially during or after a major bushfire.
-
That is a very impressive dust cloud. I am happy to be in N. CA right now instead of in that mess.

GA and I live over the other side of Australia - nothing happens here.
I have never seen anything like those pictures. It can't have been good for anyone to breathe that dust in. I have asthma so I would have stayed inside.
I bet the car wash businesses will be doing a roaring trade now.

Oh, I didn't realize you and GA were down under as well as Singularity. There are quite a few Australians here.

"Health authorities, meanwhile, have urged people with asthma or breathing difficulties to stay indoors. The official air quality index for New South Wales recorded pollutant levels as high as 4,164 in Sydney. A level above 200 is considered hazardous."

Dust-laden skies the colour of pumpkin are not a frequently-occurring phenomenon here. Still, when my husband was urging me to go outside and have a look, my reaction was "Eugh, no thanks." :o The sky returned to its usual blue after a few hours, and then there was a lot of sweeping-up of rust-coloured gritty dust to be done. I'd rather clean up after a dust storm than a bushfire, though.
-
I am used to the occasional dust storm, although they are a bit of an inconvenience. Especially for example; when your car becomes covered in dust.

It's worse when you get rain and a dust storm at the same time, it practically rains specks of mud. We've had that on a few occasions, some recently.

i can imagine that people would think the world was ending there, as ive seen out of towners here flip out about the monsoon storms. i imagine i would think it was pretty lame, if i wasnt used to it.
