Title: Fireworks
Post by: Parts on July 05, 2009, 01:49:30 PM: Last night was the fourth and the people down the street from me put on a display that went on like in this vid a good 45 minutes straight. It amazes me just how much the spend the big ones are not cheep and the intensity of them going off never slowed. This is from my front porch

Post by: TheoK on July 05, 2009, 02:12:02 PM: I spend at least 1000 kronor every New Year's Eve and Easter Eve on fireworks. That's about $125. A big rocket costs 150-200 kronor and a decent "cake" costs at least 500 kronor.

But I divide what it costs with a whole year, and then it's only 5.5 kronor/day or less than a buck. ;)

We had a pretty good display from some private citizens, but nothing like that.

45 minutes of fireworks like those could have cost thousands of dollars.

Neighbor 3 houses down from us put on a similar display, 100% better than what the local FD set up the night before.

He had cases of them lined up in the driveway, it was awesome.

Post by: TheoK on July 05, 2009, 03:04:20 PM: The cities in Sweden and Norway actually set off very beautiful fireworks. Though the poor Norwegians aren't allowed to set off fireworks at all as private citizens.

Here the city of Stavanger in Norway sets of a 7 minutes firework. It contained 1.7 tons of powder and cost 1 million Norwegian kroner or about US$ 150000!

There's a warmup round for the little kids around 9 pm, and then the grand finale at midnight. Usually the Sydney Harbour Bridge has a starring role in the display, and the number, in tonnes, of exploded pyrotechnics is mind-boggling.

2000 was a big year for fireworks, with the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies and various millenium-related events.
