Look at this weird shit from the town I grew up in I heard in on local news but the AP picked it up
HARTFORD, Conn. – A 200-pound domesticated chimpanzee who once starred in TV commercials for Old Navy and Coca-Cola was shot dead by police after a violent rampage that left a friend of its owner badly mauled.
Sandra Herold, who owned the 15-year-old chimp named Travis, wrestled with the animal after it inexplicably attacked her friend Charla Nash, 55.
Nash had gone to Herold's home in Stamford

He was toilet trained, bathed and dressed himself, and brushed his teeth.
It sounds like he was raised more like a child than as a pet, so everyone forgot that he was still a wild animal.

In rare cases, frank psychosis has been attributed to chronic Lyme disease effects, including mis-diagnoses of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Panic attack and anxiety can occur, also delusional behavior, including somatoform delusions, sometimes accompanied by a depersonalization or derealization syndrome similar to what was seen in the past in the prodromal or early stages of general paresis.[24][25]

he might have seen something that wasn't there. or the xanax had an opposite effect. anyway you're right he was a wild animal, it's stupid to forget that.
-
:( That's sad. That was somebodies baby..............well to be blunt animals shouldn't be taken out of the wild for homo sapian amusement.
-
This is why chimps should not be granted rights Soph!
-
There's a TV show here, Fatal Attractions, about people who have met horrible fates by treating dangerous animals as pets. :duh:
-
Letting them vote and debate in Parliament would fuck things up, even by English standards. :hahaha:

But I do think they are entitled to have ice lollies as you mentioned elsewhere. :toporly:

Yeah because humans never do this kinda shit.......................
He probably should never have been "owned" and used as an actor in the first place

He should not have been forced to be "human", that violated his chimp rights.
-
Yeah that is true
I am not saying chimps should be forced to be human either btw, when I say they should have more rights. I just call them human rights as that is obviously what they are called for people. For chimps they would not be human rights, I just think they should have similar

Holy fuck, did anyone else pull up the interview Oprah did with Charla Nash after this happened? Badly mauled is an understatement. :zombiefuck:
*not for the squeamish*
Nash lost both her hands in the attack, as well as her nose, an eyelid, and lips. Doctors removed her eyes due to an infection, and only recently did she learn she'll no longer be able to see.

Animals shouldn't be owned or used sound like something Ingrid Newkirk would say. She'd gladly take your pets from you and kill them with her own hands.

I just found her pictures. You are right, it's not for the squeamish.

Well, I guess the old biddy might have been in need of a facelift. :orly:
I have to say, for a chimp, he was doing a great job before being shot to death by the pigs.

This is how she looked before the attack:

Me having a cat/dog is not the same as taking a chimp like that

This person here has got 4 chimps! :facepalm2:

All of adolescent age as well.

I knew people in high school with chips I think they had 6-8 of them but they were circus people. Their chimps rode motorcycles and everything

Oh god I can just imagine the noise, having 6-8 chimps around. All the screaming and fighting.
Even though I do not like seeing chimps used for entertainment, I must admit there is something very amusing about a chimp on a motorbike.

They were friends of my sisters and even inside their house the noise was unbearable at times. I tried to avoid going there I felt bad for their neighbors

Actually, I kind of wouldn't mind being their neighbour. Would be quite an interesting alarm clock wouldn't it, waking up to "AAHHAHAHH AHHH AHHH", would make where I live feel exotic and stuff.

They made noise ALL the time. :zombiefuck:

 That is a funny post, but I disagree with it. I don't want to have neighbors keeping chimps, cobras, lions or other potentially dangerous wild pets.

Oh yes of course, I wouldn't want them keeping wild animals. Often people that keep primates as pets or substitute kids actually forget how wild they are, because they have people hands and stuff they seem safe. But the opposite is true.
Oh but I would want to live by a zoo! Especially one's with gibbons, they have the nicest sounding calls.

Zoo's always make me sad. And when I went to Seaworld, that made me sad too, but my ex's nephew wanted to go there. I had to keep my mouth shut.
The only zoo I ever really liked was Great Western Plains zoo in Dubbo where the enclosures are designed to be inobtrusive and are like a savannah.

I know what you mean. At the zoo I'm always in a constant dilemma, I get excited at seeing my favourite animals right there in front of me, but I get so depressed and frustrated at where they are. Some of the zoos in America like San Diego look amazing and the enclosures look really big from the videos I've seen. But most of the ones in Britain are shite. At Twycross zoo where I went yesterday many enclosures are quite old, they said they are extending and building a really really big one for the chimpanzees, I can't wait. it's about time I think they've had the same enclosures for years. I do want to visit zoos still, because they need the money to do the extending and improving of the living quarters, if no one went they would run out. And I'd like to work in one, so I can take an active role in improving them and making sure that the animals live a good enough life and don't go round the twist with boredom. But I still feel really guilty about being there.

Yes, I guess I see your point about trying to improve them. I have only ever gone under duress, I find it too distressing....almost like a prison camp is the best way to describe it.
-
Yes it is like a prison. But no crimes were ever committed, I guess the animals' only "crime" is being entertaining to swarms of annoying humans.
-
I love giraffes, but the only time I've ever seen one was a depressing experience. I saw him in a pen at this huge sort of farm fair we have
every fall, called the Big E. Poor thing looked so out of his element. People were feeding him stuff, probably hot dogs and junk like that.
He was magnificent and should have been loping across a plain in Africa, not moping in a stupid little pen in Massachusetts. :thumbdn:

Yeah, I always find the Giraffe enclosure at Taronga in Sydney odd....gazillion dollar views, but not much use to a Giraffe.
The only thing remotely OK about this old city zoo is that they rotate with Great Western Plains zoo...so the animals do get some respite.

Dear, gawky creatures...they must look around and wonder where the hell they are! :(
-
I think some animals are fine in zoos if their enclosures are very big, but then there are some others who will NEVER be ok in a zoo imo, like lions
I went to a zoo last year with my family for my brother's birthday
They do look after the animals at least, and they're not just in it for the money or something, but I do agree it's wrong. I also have the same dillemma thugh as I love seeing the animals and taking photos
